Scotty McCreery Is Happy To Help 12.14 Foundation

A Goodwill Ambassador
Additionally, the 12.14 Foundation has recently named American Idol winner and country music star Scotty McCreery as its first national goodwill ambassador. Mr McCreery visited with foundation board members and families affected by 12/14 this past December at Edmond Town Hall. According to a press release issued the week of February 3, “He will play an active role in promoting the foundation’s arts programming, supporting its fundraising efforts, and building awareness for the organization’s plans to build a world-class performing arts and education center in Newtown.”

“When we were approached [about becoming the national goodwill ambassador for 12.14 Foundation], I saw the passion they had, and it fit in with what we are trying to do,” said Mr McCreery in a phone interview, Tuesday, February 11. “Having a number one record is nice, but the main thing for me is impacting people’s lives in a positive way through music and the performing arts, and that’s what the 12.14 Foundation is doing,” said Mr McCreery.

“Scotty has accomplished great things at a very young age,” said Dr Baroody. “He shows perseverance and commitment, and is an exceptional role model to young people. He is in college, while maintaining a career. He’s a wholesome role model, and kids can relate to him, because he is so young,” he said, epitomizing the kind of performer the 12.14 Foundation hopes to attract to the proposed performing arts center. “We see Scotty as more than a one-time thing. When we met with him in December, we developed a relationship. He was on board with what we are trying to do,” Dr Baroody said. Mr McCreery’s star value will serve as a welcome public relations piece, reaching people far beyond Newtown, and put a face to the project, he said.  Mr McCreery’s future involvement with the 12.14 Foundation could include leading programs, and even giving input to the design of the center, said Dr Baroody.

“Being the ambassador is something I want to carry around with me. At every concert I’ll be representing [the 12/14 Foundation],” Mr McCreery said. It is a responsibility he takes very seriously. While he has been involved with other charity groups, including the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child and World Vision, this is the first time he has been involved with something of this significance in the states, he said.

Just as Mr McCreery looked up to his own father as a role model, as well as country music singers Josh Turner and Brad Paisley, he appreciates that kids connect to him.
“It’s really cool,” he said, “when a kid comes up to you and says, ‘I want to be like you.’ I want to make sure all I do is not something that will disappoint [the kids],” he said.
“I’m lucky to work with some of the best in the business, in music and sound. If the foundation ever needed input, I would love to be able to give good advice, and more than happy to help however I can,” Mr McCreery said.  He looks forward to a return to Newtown. “Hopefully, one day, when the performing arts center is up and running, I’ll be back to maybe do a concert there,” he said.

Scotty McCreery Is All Grown Up

With a new season of American Idol underway, it’s hard to believe that three years have passed since we first saw Scotty McCreery auditioning for the show…and that it’s been two-and-a-half years since he was crowned the tenth season winner on the show. “I’ve grown up a heck of a lot in the last couple years,” Scotty admits, pointing out that he was just 17 when he first landed on the world’s radar. “I did a lot of growing up because I’m in an adult world now,” he explains. “I’m out there on the road, hanging with my band, and hanging with my managers…and different artists.” That maturity can be heard in Scotty’s music…and seen in his outlook. “I’ve learned a lot about myself…and [about] what’s out there – what the world has to offer,” he acknowledges, adding, “And that’ll be showing in my music.”

Scotty’s climbing the charts with “See You Tonight,” the Top 10 title track from his current album. It’s one of five songs he co-wrote for the collection.

Scotty McCreery's Single See You Tonight is #9 on Mediabase Charts

Here's a great article written by Jason Scott about SYT

Scotty McCreery's year is shaping to be one of many firsts. His current single, "See You Tonight," lifted from the album of the same name, becomes the singer's first Top 10 radio single this week, rising 12-10 on the Mediabase radio tally.

Last week, the breezy anthem became McCreery's third gold-selling single, shifting more than 500,000 copies. As previously reported, the track moved an additional 17,000 copies, end of the tracking week Sunday, February 9.

Previously, his highest charting single was his "American Idol" coronation track "I Love You This Big," which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Other singles include "The Trouble With Girls" (No. 17) and "Water Tower Town" (No. 38). "See You Tonight" currently sits at No. 12 on this chart, up from No. 14 last week.

This is McCreery's first co-write to achieve the upper tier of the chart, a song he penned with proven hit-makers Ashley Gorley ("That's My Kind of Night" by Luke Bryan) and Zach Crowell ("Cop Car" by Keith Urban).

The "See You Tonight" set bowed at No. 1 on Billboard Top Country Albums in October, moving over 52,000 copies. It placed at No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Another great review of SYT - I only posted a portion of the article - click the link to read the entire article

"Everything about the See You Tonight, from the performance from McCreery to the production from Frank Rogers to the song selections, shows McCreery having the utmost potential in becoming a major country star. In fact, this perfect storm is exactly what the artist needed to have any sort of sustainable career in country music."

Scotty McCreery, Eric Paslay travel different paths to success

I've only posted a few things about Scotty from the article - but this is a great (long) article, so click on the link to read the entire article

“He had to convince radio he was the real deal,” said Frank Rogers, who produced McCreery’s second album “See You Tonight.” “Now I think radio has figured that out. It’s never easy, but I think there is a stigma against the contest winners. Other than Carrie (Underwood), everyone else has hit a brick wall."

Rogers said that McCreery sat down and played him 40 songs for consideration for the album without telling him anything about them. “See You Tonight,” an up-tempo longing, love song, was the one Rogers predicted would be a hit. “He said, ‘Cool, I wrote it,’ ” Rogers said.

“(The quality of his voice) was the thing that impressed me the most the first day we sat down and started talking. No doubt he’s one of those great singers. There’s not any of that studio trickery going on with his vocals … and he’s starting to stretch his wings as a songwriter and figure out who he is.”

Online classes will allow him to travel more easily. During the interview, McCreery was in the middle of a 20-day run, something he said he never could have done before rejiggering his class schedule in 2014.

Some History of Billy Bob's

The building now known as Billy Bob’s Texas was built in 1910 and was once an open-air barn used to house prize cattle for the Fort Worth Stock Show. In 1936, as a Texas Centennial Project, the building was enclosed by the City of Fort Worth at a cost of $183,500 and the tower over the main entrance was added. The “new” structure contained 1,257 animal stalls, and a 1,200 seat auction ring that is now the Billy Bob’s Bull Riding arena. Livestock events were held here until the stock show moved to the Will Rogers Memorial Complex, in 1943. During World War II, the building was used as an airplane factory for the Globe Aircraft Corporation. In the 1950′s the building became a department store so large that the stock boys wore roller skates to make their jobs easier.

Billy Bob’s Texas opened April 1, 1981 with national attention featuring Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers as the first performers. Other artists who appeared during opening week included Waylon Jennings, Janie Fricke, and Willie Nelson. With 100,000 square feet of interior space and 20 acres of parking for entertainment and events, Billy Bob’s features 30 individual bar stations, live music with country music’s biggest stars, Live Pro Bull Riding, and a Texas size dance floor for everyone to enjoy. Billy Bob’s Live Pro Bull Riding is sanctioned by Championship Bull Riding (CBR) and contestants compete every Friday and Saturday night. We’re talking real bulls- not mechanical! Billy Bob’s also offers our guests a chance to be a rodeo star by providing an authentic stuffed bull photo opportunity as if they were part of the live action.
