Scotty McCreery to play in Kinston

Published: Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 13:22 PM.
Fans of Scotty McCreery will get a chance to see the country music star in person next month.
Tommy Garrett, program director for WRNS, said McCreery is coming to Kinston on Dec 5. as part of WRNS’s fifth annual Holiday Ho Hodown. The concert will be at the Woodman Community Center at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Garret said tickets are free, and can be won through WRNS in a variety of ways.“There (are) going to be ticket drops, win-it-weekends with WRNS and we are going to have some on our WRNS Country Club,” he said. Garrett said tickets will be available on-air through Wednesday, with WRNS giving out a pair of tickets at 8:10 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 4:10 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. Garrett said tickets for a meet and greet with McCreery will be given out along with other tickets over the next few weeks.

Tony Denton, director of sales at WRNS, said the radio station will be at Handy Mart locations in Jacksonville on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. WRNS will also be giving out tickets at Bojangles locations in Greenville and Kinston on Monday and Dec. 2, respectively, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Two pairs of tickets will be given out every 10 minutes.

Denton said in previous years, the event has featured country artists such as Craig Morgan and Joe Nichols.
“It’s kind of our Christmas party for listeners we do each year,” he said.  Garrett said he worked with McCreery’s camp to bring the country star to Kinston. “With him being a N.C. product, I figured it was perfect and he thought it as well. So he was ready to do it.”

Denton said there were stipulations to McCreery’s appearance.  “It had to be a free show in a family-oriented atmosphere, like the Woodman Center, not in a bar or anything like that,” he said.

Garrett said there will also be charities involved. The Food Bank of ENC will be present at the concert, and fans are encouraged to bring canned goods as a donation.  Kelly Cannon, executive director at the Woodman Center, said she is looking forward to McCreery’s show.“We are extremely excited and privileged, that he chose our facility to host his concert. We look forward to having the community come to our center to see him,” she said.
