Scotty McCreery will perform at the Opry April 13th

Scotty McCreery will be at the

Grand Ole Opry House Sat., 04/13/2013 7:00 p.m.

“I’ve always dreamed of having a career in country music,” Scotty says. “I just never thought it could happen. I had never really given myself a chance. Idol gave me the chance and I ran with it. I’m having a good time.”
As the season 10 winner and youngest male winner ever of the TV show American Idol, Scotty McCreery became the person 38.6 million viewers tuned in to watch. A week later, he made country music history when his debut single, “I Love You This Big,” earned the highest debut for a new artist’s first single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart since at least 1984. The song, which hit the Top 20 in seven weeks, is one of the fastest-rising debut singles for a new country artist in history.
He’s released his debut album, Clear As Day, in the fall of 2011, and made his Grand Ole Opry debut on June 10, 2011.
“My music is obviously country and it has some old influences in it,” he says, “I love a contemporary feel with an old soul in it.”
His producer, Mark Bright, feels the same way. “He is an old soul. It is an incredible thing, that someone that age fully understands what is before him and is completely unaffected by that. I have never seen anything like it in my life. He loves it and he understands the opportunity he’s been given and he wants to work to take advantage of that opportunity.”

Scotty McCreery Hosts the ACM New Artist Special Premiering on GAC March 25

As reigning ACM Top New Artist, Scotty McCreery knows exactly how Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert and Jana Kramer feel as they vie for this year’s ACM Top New Artist Award. Scotty will host the ACM Top New Artist special, premiering Monday, March 25 at 8/7c on GAC where each of the finalists will receive their individual category trophy from Scotty.

“Winning the ACM award was a huge stepping stone for me and is kind of cool for me and my fans,” Scotty said. “Even those who maybe weren’t fans were made aware of me through that show.”

Florida Georgia Line was named the ACM Top New Duo or Group and will perform their hits “Cruise” and “Get Your Shine On” during the special. “This has all happened so fast, I just think we’re the luckiest guys in the world to get to do music for a living,” Brian Kelley said. “What’s cool about it is that if we don’t win, we know one of our friends is going to win so it’s kind of just a win/win situation,” Tyler Hubbard added.

Brantley Gilbert took home the ACM Top New Male trophy and is up for New Artist for the second consecutive year. He’ll perform “More Than Miles” and “Kick It In The Sticks” on the special. He says his fans aren’t, well, fans.

“I’ve never considered them fans, we consider them friends,” he said. “I don’t sing anything I don’t write and I don’t write anything I hadn’t been through so I think a friend is someone who knows you and if you listen to any of my records, you got a pretty good idea of who I am, good or bad.”

Jana Kramer, named Top New Female Artist, is enjoying a second successful career as a singer. She formerly starred on the hit series One Tree Hill. She’ll perform “Why Ya Wanna” and “Whiskey” while cracking jokes that regardless of whether she or fiancĂ© Brantley Gilbert wins, the trophy will come home to the same house.

“I think the greatest compliment is when someone comes up to me and says, ‘I had no idea you were an actress,’” she said. “I love that; I want people to like me just for my music.”

Final round fan voting for the New Artist category will begin at VoteACM.com on March 25 and will close April 7, with the winner announced live during the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Co-hosted by Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, the ACM Awards air live on CBS on April 7 at 8/7c.

Scotty McCreery Talks About His Dating Life While on the Road

Rising star Scotty McCreery is a busy man these days, what with working on a new album, attending college and touring. In a new interview, the former ‘American Idol‘ champion confesses that his busy schedule makes it hard to find time for dating

McCreery called in to Broadway’s Electric Barnyard radio show on Country 92.5 on Tuesday (March 19) to talk about everything he’s got going on, and (of course) the topic turned to his dating life. The young entertainer remained elusive about whether he’s dating anyone specific when the hosts asked about his relationship with Gabi Dougal, a longtime friend. “She’s a great friend,” he replied. “She’s one of those girls that I’ve known since kindergarten.”

As for fellow ‘Idol’ alumnus Lauren Alaina, McCreery revealed, “We stay in contact some, but it’s one of those things where we’re both off in our own little world now, touring and doing different things.”

The singer said his life right now just doesn’t make it easy to try to date anyone. “The dating life on the road, it’s a tough thing to get around,” he admitted. “It’s tough to even work out anything.”
So for now, it looks like McCreery will have to settle for a few friendly rounds of golf with friends — and a possible trip to space, if he has his way.

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

It's been 11 years since we've gotten to know and love American Idol and its contestants. Especially the country ones. So when Billboard put together this list of the Top 100 songs by Idol finalists, based on the chart performance on the Hot 100, I took a long, hard look and pulled out my favorite songs. And to absolutely no one's surprise, they are all country. They are almost all from Carrie Underwood, but there are a few surprises on the list, too. Like Josh Gracin. Here are the 31 country songs, in countdown order based on their rank on the original list.
99. "Like My Mother Does," Lauren Alaina
97. "Home Sweet Home," Underwood
91. "Red High Heels," Kellie Pickler
