Chop up: Scotty McCreery

By Jason Jordan

We caught up with the American Idol winner and had him reminisce on his high school days, and more.
Before Scotty McCreery was melting the hearts of millions with his melodic country swag in route to winning American Idol back in 2011 and before he was selling 1.6 million albums worldwide, making himself a household name in the process, McCreery was simply known as... Larry Bird?
"I could shoot the lights out," McCreery said. "Yep, back in the fourth grade I never missed. I could knock shots down all day. They really called me Larry Bird."
Larry "Legend" you say? The former Celtic great with three NBA titles and three league MVP's?
Wait, wait, something's not adding up.
Where's the part about McCreery going on to become one of the top high school players in the country, picking a storied college program and making noise in the NCAA Tournament?
"Well, then came the fifth grade," McCreery said. "It just left me."
I caught up with McReery to chat about everything from how his basketball skills faded to his excitement about today's release of his sophomore album "See You Tonight" to why he'd pick N.C. State forward T.J. Warren over LeBron James.
Jason Jordan: Your new album "See You Tonight" dropped today; you've gotta be really excited about this project.
Scotty McCreery: Oh yeah we're all really pumped! This is a project that we've been working on for more than a year now, and the biggest thing for me is the music. I love this album; we've got some great songs up here. I hope the fans all like it and go out and get it; we'll be playing these songs on the road here soon.
