Angie Johnson Joins Scotty McCreery’s 2013 Weekend Roadtrip Tour
By Megan Pacella August 30, 2013 5:30 PM
s
Every great artist needs a great touring partner. Lucky for Scotty McCreery, he found one in Angie Johnson.
Johnson is a newcomer to the country music scene, who was initially discovered when a video of her singing Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ on a military base in the Middle East went viral. Carson Daly discovered the clip and invited Johnson to try out for NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ where she became a contestant for Cee Lo Green.
Although she didn’t take home first prize on ‘The Voice’ (thanks to winner Danielle Bradbery), Johnson managed to score a lot of media exposure — and a record deal with Sony Nashville.
She’ll join McCreery’s tour on Sunday (Sept. 1) in his home state of North Carolina, and it sounds like she couldn’t be more excited.
“I just love Scotty’s voice,” Johnson reveals. “He’s a real talent, and I’m super excited to join him on his Weekend Roadtrip Tour. I think we’re going to have a blast on the road together!”
Johnson got a little extra practice singing in front of huge crowds when she opened for the St. Louis Rams’ final pre-season game on Thursday (Aug. 29). Recently, the St. Louis native has been spending lots of time traveling to radio stations to promote her debut single, ‘Swagger.’ The tune has been the most-added single by a female artist for three weeks straight.

News Observer Article on Scotty McCreery's sophmore album

UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP NASHVILLE
By Thad Ogburn — togburn@newsobserver.com
Arguably the most famous sophomore at N.C. State University will be releasing his sophomore album in October. Scotty
McCreery, the “American Idol” winner from Garner, co-wrote five of the
13 songs on “See You Tonight.” The album will be available Oct. 15, with
preorders starting Sept. 3. McCreery’s debut, “Clear As Day,”
went platinum (selling more than 1 million copies) after being released
in October 2011. It debuted atop both the Billboard Top 200 and Top
Country Album charts.
He technically had a second album, “Christmas with Scotty McCreery,” which debuted last October at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. But it was mostly holiday classics, so “See You Tonight,” with all-new material, is being considered his sophomore album. McCreery said he wanted to find the right mix of songs to avoid any sophomore slump.
“While ... I had a platinum record and won awards and sold-out shows, I didn’t have that big radio hit,” McCreery told The N&O last year. “I’ve really go to take my time with finding songs and making sure they’re the right songs for this record.”
Some of those songs he found through his own songwriting, which he’s been working to hone in the past year. He shares co-writing credits on the songs “Now,” “Something More,” “Can You Feel It, “ I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend” and the title track, “See You Tonight.”
He released the “See You Tonight” single earlier this year and performed it in the song on a return trip to “Idol.” It peaked at No. 28 on the country singles chart. The song was rereleased and given a new commercial push this month. It was No. 77 on the iTunes country chart Wednesday.
Beyond promoting his music, McCreery, who will turn 20 this fall, is a dedicated member of the Wolfpack nation. Last Saturday, he performed at N.C. State’s “Packapalooza” festival on Hillsborough Street. He even had new N.C. State football coach Dave Doeren and school chancellor Randy Woodson on stage for a performance of “Wagon Wheel,” the Old Crow Medicine Show song recently covered by Darius Rucker. ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=317J8X5vmqA)
McCreery particularly relished singing the line, “If I die in Raleigh, at least I will die free.”
He also took part in last weekend’s Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic. And in October, he’ll once again perform two shows at the N.C. State Fair. The shows are Oct. 21 and 22. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.ncstatefair.org

Scotty McCreery Debuts New Trio Featuring NC State Head Coach, Chancellor
Credit to: NC State for the video
College football season is just a few days away, and
Scotty McCreery seems to be ready for it. The singer took a respite from
his touring schedule over the weekend to welcome back his fellow
Wolfpackers to North Carolina State by making a little bit of history in
the process.
The "American Idol" winner debuted a new trio during the
Packapalooza street festival that celebrates Wolfpack Welcome Week.
Performing alongside of McCreery were Chancellor Randy Woodson and head
football coach Dave Doeren.
The men combined their "talents" and school spirit on
"Wagon Wheel," which also featured accompaniment from two Wolfpack
mascots. McCreery seemed to take a great deal of pride in the line "If I
Die In Raleigh, At Least I Will Die Free."
But, the singer proved himself to be an artist of equal
opportunity, as he invited to the stage N.C. State’s baseball coach,
Elliott Avent, and his team to congratulate their appearance in the
College World Series earlier this year. "I grew up playing ball and I
knew when I came to N.C. State that we had a great ball club," McCreery
said. "I was extremely excited to see us to go Omaha this year."
McCreery also participated in this weekend’s Jimmy V
Celebrity Golf Classic, which was sponsored by the foundation that is
named for the late legendary Coach Jim Valvano (Jimmy V) has raised more
than $100 million for cancer research. On Saturday night, he attended
the V Gala, where he met former Dallas Cowboys star Emmitt Smith, who
tweeted a photo of the two of them, and baseball pitcher Roger Clemens,
who invited McCreery, a former high school pitcher, to spend time
pitching and relaxing with him in Houston.
Today, he and father Mike McCreery competed in the golf
tournament for the second consecutive year. "It was an incredible
weekend," he says. "I was able to be a college student, a performer AND
golf with great athletes such as Emmitt Smith and Roger Clemens to raise
money for The V Foundation. Jim Valvano has always been one of my
heroes. I’m honored to be a part of their Celebrity Golf Classic."
His current single, "See You Tonight," is climbing the
charts and is the debut single from his second studio album, which will
be released later this fall. He is on his first headlining tour, Weekend
Roadtrip 2013.
McCreery seems to be ready to hit the books once again."I
loved every minute of touring this summer and seeing fans around the
U.S. and Canada, but I also looked forward to moving back in with my
college roommates, walking around campus to classes and taking in some
ACC football," he says.
