Scotty McCreery fits the reality-television mold: smooth, deep voice, piercing blue eyes and love for playing guitar. It was no surprise when he became the winner of the 10th season of “American Idol.”
Some critics bash the manufactured music the show is producing, but McCreery believes that reality music television shows are more of a help than a hindrance.
“There’s a lot more ways of getting into the music industry as an artist,” McCreery said, a self-proclaimed “all-American kid.” “ ‘Idol’ can become their first big thing to really establish some credibility.”
Before auditioning in Milwaukee in 2011 McCreery, 19, wanted to pursue a career in the music business. Auditioning on the show, and ultimately winning, allowed him to skip a few steps to make his dreams a reality.
Who knows where he’d be if it weren’t for his time on the show, he said. He probably wouldn’t have been honored as Academy of Country Music’s “Best New Artist” in 2012.
