Scotty McCreery shines at 2013 ACM Awards moves on to American Idol

Country crooner Scotty McCreery kicked off a big week on April 6 when he attended the 2013 ACM Awards. He looked fresh and current when he hit the red carpet on Sunday night to pose for the cameras and greet thousands of screaming fans. It was just the beginning of an exciting week. On Thursday, McCreery returns to the “American Idol” stage to perform live, along with fellow winner Kelly Clarkson.

Scotty’s first stop was in Las Vegas to attend the 2013 American Country Music Awards. Every year, the Academy honors and showcases the biggest names and emerging talent in the country music industry. Luke Bryan was a huge winner on Sunday, scoring the biggest award of the night. He defeated familiar favorites Taylor Swift, fellow co-host Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean to win Entertainer of the Year. “This is a defining moment in my life,” he said emotionally. Miranda Lambert took home three awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, and Song of the Year. Below are the other 2013 ACM Award winners.

  • Male Vocalist of the Year: Jason Aldean
  • Vocal Duo of the Year: Thompson Square
  • Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town
  • New Artist of the Year: Florida Georgia Line
  • Album of the Year: “Chief” by Eric Church
  • Songwriter of the Year: Dallas Davidson
  • Video of the Year: “Tornado” by Little Big Town
  • Vocal Event of the Year: “The Only Way I Know” – Jason Aldean with Luke Bryan and Eric Church
On Thursday, Scotty McCreery returns to the very stage that made him the big star he is today. In May 2011, he won the tenth season of “American Idol,” defeating Lauren Alaina in the finals. His debut album, “Clear As Day,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 and sold 197,000 copies in the first week alone. It reached the top position on five different billboard charts. In 2011, Scotty won ACM and ACA Awards, plus a CMT Award in 2012. He opened for Brad Paisley in 2012 and embarked on a “Weekend Roadtrip” headline tour in January 2013.

This week on “American Idol,” Lazaro Arbos, Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb and Angie Miller must perform two songs each. On Thursday, another talented contestant will be sent home. Past winners Kelly Clarkson and Scotty McCreery will both perform. “American Idol” airs at 8 p.m. EST on April 10 and 11 on FOX.
