RALEIGH -- Despite icy roads and below freezing
temperatures, fans flocked to PNC Arena Saturday morning to be a part
of the first ever ESPN College GameDay held in Raleigh.
Though the show started at 10 a.m., N.C. State fans, along with a handful of North Carolina fans, were waiting hours beforehand.
For Wolfpack senior Ryan Abernathy, the wait to get into the arena started at 4:30 a.m. after being denied a chance at sleeping out on the ice on Friday night.
“We’re ready to beat Carolina,” Abernathy said. “We came out here at 9 p.m. with a tent and sleeping bags and were going to camp out, but security told us to go home. College GameDay’s here, so we had to be here.”
Fans who arrived early were treated to a speech from new football coach Dave Doeren along with performances by the dance team and cheerleading squad.
American Idol winner and N.C. State student Scotty McCreery took a break from recording in Nashville, Tenn., to attend the game and be a part of the event. The Garner native performed “Wagon Wheel,” by Old Crow Medicine Show with Doeren and fullback Logan Winkles on the court.

ReplyDeleteLyrics -- Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash)
I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when
I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone.
When I was just a baby, my mama told me,
Son, always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns
But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowing, I hang my head and cry.
I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car
They're probably drinkin' coffee and smoking big cigars
Well I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free
But those people keep a movin'
And that's what tortures me.
Well, if they freed me from this prison,
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move it on a little farther down the line
Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to be
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away.
:D
"Wagon Wheel?" Did they perform another song?
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I've seen about "Wagon Wheel?" Anybody know????????
DeleteI don't know if they made a mistake or if he actually performed another song. Until this article I had only heard about them singing Folsom Prison Blues
DeleteHi, Donna :D -- it must be a mistake - i mean, the article says Wagon Wheel, but the video clip is Folsom Prison Blues (the only video that's been circulating) - AND, Coach D tweeted that they were going to sing Johnny Cash -- anyway...hope all's well with you, Donna!

ReplyDeleteThey all did good especially after just meeting up with them that morning to do a song with guys that you never practiced with until right before the performance.Great job guys I loved it...Scotty your voice is awesome.

ReplyDeleteThere was picture posted on Coach Doeren twitter acc. of Scotty playing Logans guitar and singing. We think he might have sung Wagon Wheel as suggested in the article and an assumption from the picture. But we cannot find any video of that performance. The caption on the picture says Scotty gave a mini-concert prior to Game Day on ESPN...so its possible he sung Wagon Wheel too.
ReplyDeleteScotty did sing wagon wheel I seen a story ,and picture with him and the coach.I wish someone would have video taped it and put it on you tube. Also the video with Scotty the second one posted here is so much shorter, but the quality and sound of the video is so much better.Who knows maybe the other video will pop up somewhere with wagon wheel.I would really love to hear that one.
ReplyDeleteGo to Scotty 2013 calendar:Scotty Mccreery<idolforums.com and you will hear a little of the song wagon wheel at the end of Folsom Prisom.

ReplyDeleteI could not find Wagon Wheel on that site help! what do type in to get it?
ReplyDeleteIt's a very small clip right at the end of Folsom Prison. Not enough to tell what it really sounds like.
DeleteI'm so glad Scotty had a great time at the game and just loved hearing him sing. I was listening to some of his tours yesterday he sung in and there was one with him singing Clear as Day and OMG it sounded so good you know how he has those different ranges up and down to that song and I was just picturing that in a Video even if it wasn't him in it he could be singing it like some of them do although ,I would like him to be doing the acting in it but yea its sad song but I think it would have made a Great Video it just sounded so good. Listened and watched him half the day yesterday love hearing him sing and he is just so Amazing with the fans during his Tours singing. Miss you Scotty on Here We Need A Video and A Great Big #1 Album. Yea I know Scotty and Todd just got to be patient, right? OK I'll be waiting. ILYTB SCOTTY
ReplyDeleteI´m lovin it. Best voice ever. BTW doesn´t it look like Scotty gained some weight?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure its the college life all the fast food and late night eating I have no idea thats what i have heard. I didn't go to college but Scotty you sang so Good could listen to you all day long. Glad you got to be there and sing at your own college I bet you were so glad the plane could make it cause I hear the ice was horrible. Glad you and your family made a safe trip back from Nashville.ILYTB
ReplyDeleteScotty's family wasn't in Nashville with him. His Dad was away on business and his mother was at home and Ashley was at home in her own apartment. His Dad made it home before the storm got bad.

ReplyDeleteI think he picked up a few pounds ,but he look better he was to thin before. There's other photos with his Jacket on ,and he's still slender. He'll have to lift some weights, and that will keep him toned. My grand-daughter packed on the pounds while in college ,she lost it but she had to work hard to get it off. Those young college kids love to eat they tend to get the munchies ,and they would eat the kitchen sink if they could.
He got taller too. He was a lot shorter than his dad when he auditioned. The last picture of them together shows he is now as tall.
DeleteI just met Scotty again recently at Bo's and he is still quite thin, but he looks good. Of course he's taller.
Delete
ReplyDelete8:10 you are so right he did get so much taller. He even looks a tad taller than his dad.He was a good bit shorter than him before.I never noticed it until you mentioned it .
Pictures can be deceiving. His Dad always looks quite tall, not sure that Scotty is as tall as him!
DeleteHe just is one good looking young man and gosh he has gotten taller he was a lot shorter on idol and that Voice just Amazing, Loved Loved hearing the song. YOU CAN TELL HIS HAVING A BLAST ESPECIALLY when I saw him standing and peping up the crowd. He was lovin every bit of that just eating it up and so was I. That smile :):):):):) ILYTB
