In "But of course" news ...
Scotty McCreery, golf afficionado and proud Wolfpack fan, will participate in this summer's Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic.
The annual golf weekend raises money for The V Foundation for Cancer
Research and is named for the beloved former N.C. State basketball coach
Jim Valvano. Valvano died of cancer in 1993.
The 2011 "American Idol" winner -- and rising N.C. State freshman --
is slated to participate in the Sunday golf tournament portion of the
Classic weekend, which begins on Thursday, August 23 with the ESPN
Pre-V at Pinehurst. Sunday's tournament happens at the Lonnie Poole Golf
Course on N.C. State's Centennial Campus.
This year's goal is to fund a one million dollar grant for research
and diagnostics of the cancers affecting 9/11 First Responders who
worked at Ground Zero.
Other celebrities scheduled to attend are NBA Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley, N.C. State basketball coach Mark Gottfried, 'NYSYNC star Joey Fatone, 2005 World Series MVP Jermaine Dye, and "Bachelor" host Chris Harrison. A number of ESPN personalities and Carolina Hurricanes players are also always involved.
There's also a Pairings Party and a Reverse Raffle for a BMW 128i on
August 24 at the Raleigh Convention Center, and The V Gala will take
place on Saturday night. Entertainment for the gala will be opera
singing NYPD officer Daniel Rodriguez and a "Jersey Boys" tribute show.
For info on tickets (and for volunteer slots) check out the Jimmy V Golf Classic website.
