Scotty McCreery To Perform at 2012 Hoops 4 Hope The lifelong Wolfpack fan and Triangle area native will sing at halftime

Jan. 19, 2012

RALEIGH N.C. - The seventh annual Hoops 4 Hope women's basketball game at NC State has added a performance by Scotty McCreery to its lineup of activities. Hoops 4 Hope is Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Reynolds Coliseum.

NC State hosts ACC rival Wake Forest. Game time is 5 p.m., and will be televised on ESPN2. Doors open at 3pm.

Since winning Season Ten of American Idol in May, Scotty McCreery has quickly emerged as one of the most successful country stars of the last year. His debut album, Clear As Day, was certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million units in just three months, and he was recently named No. 1 on Billboard magazine's list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December.

Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks. The album's first single, "I Love You This Big," has also been certified gold. His current single, "The Trouble With Girls," is approaching gold status as well.

He is currently touring the nation as part of Brad Paisley's "Virtual Reality Tour 2012" presented by Chevrolet. The lifelong Wolfpack fan and Triangle area native has agreed to take a break from the tour to join in the celebration of the survivors.

General Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth 17 and under. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. To purchase tickets visit or call the ticket office at 1-800-310-PACK.

NC State Student Tickets will be free but are limited, and must be requested now by going clicking here.

The Hoops 4 Hope Event, started by Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow, is designed to bring awareness and hope in the fight against breast cancer.

A celebration at halftime will be highlighted by recognition of Breast Cancer Survivors as Scotty McCreery will sing a special tribute to those survivors in attendance. It is important that survivors register through the website link at the bottom of the page to participate in the recognition.

More information can be found at the official homepage of the event

The honors keep coming for North Carolina's Scotty McCreery, whose first CD has just gone platinum.

"Clear As Day," released in October, has sold more than a million copies.

"It means the world to me," said McCreery, 18, who became the winner of Season 10 of "American Idol" in May. "It's one of the highest honors you can get with your album, and it's a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me."

"Clear As Day" had previously received gold record certification, meaning 500,000 copies sold. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts. It was No. 1 on the country chart for six weeks, and it received the highest sales of any country solo album released in 2011.

McCreery, a native of Garner, also has received a gold record for his first single, "I Love You This Big," and his second single, "The Trouble With Girls," is approaching gold status.

The video for "The Trouble With Girls" was filmed with some of McCreery's friends at Garner High School, where he is a senior when his busy schedule allows.

But now he's on tour with country superstar Brad Paisley. The tour, which began last Thursday in Grand Rapids, Mich., will take McCreery across much of the West and Midwest until early March. The closest date to North Carolina is Baltimore on March 1.

McCreery's parents, Mike and Judy McCreery of Garner, will take turns accompanying him on the tour stops.

Don't worry that his time away from school will affect his studies. Because of tutoring he received during his time on "Idol," McCreery will be graduating with his Garner High class this spring. "I'll be walking with them!" he said in an interview last month.
