Scotty McCreery's "Clear As Day" Certified Platinum

Scotty McCreery Ends Perceived Winners Jinx

"American Idol" judge Randy Jackson says Scotty McCreery has ended a recent perception that Idol winners don't have as good a career as second-place finishers. Of course, each winner and each singer is different. So Jackson says "it depends on the artist." He also says making "an amazing, competitive record" is crucial. The new season of "American Idol" begins January 18.

NASHVILLE, TN – Scotty McCreery’s debut album, Clear As Day, has been certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million in just three months after its release. In addition, he was named No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December. Scotty says the platinum certification marks a major milestone in his career. “It means the world to me,” he says. “It’s one of the highest honors you can get with your album and it’s a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me this year. 2011 was absolutely an incredible, life-changing year for me. I want to say a huge thanks to the fans for this.” Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year. It held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks. The album’s first single, “I Love You This Big,” has also been certified gold. His current single, “The Trouble With Girls,” is approaching gold status as well. The album, which was released Oct. 4, was certified gold for sales of 500,000 in November. The platinum certification followed about seven weeks later. “Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum in three months,” he says. “Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum. It’s wild! It’s going to take me a few months or years to really wrap my head around it.” He is also grateful to be included in Billboard’s Dec. 17 year-end issue. In addition to being named No. 1 in its list of Top New Country Artists, he ranked No. 9 on its list of Top Country Albums Artists. Clear As Day ranked No. 12 on its list of Top Country Albums. He is No. 15 on Billboard’s Top Country Artists list. “That is a huge honor,” he says. “I’m honored to be included in that list of great artists.” On Thursday, he begins his first country music tour when he joins Brad Paisley’s “Virtual Reality Tour 2012” presented by Chevrolet. The tour, which also features the Band Perry, kicks off in Grand Rapids, Mich. “I’m looking forward to having a great time,” he says. “It’s going to be a fun, jam-packed set. We are including a lot of the fun songs on the album, and both of the singles are in there. It will be a good chance to see the fans and just http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifenjoy a good show with Brad Paisley and The Band Perry.” He is well aware of Paisley’s reputation as a great prankster. “The band and I were talking about pranks yesterday in rehearsals. It has to be good pranks, but know-your-place pranks, so we are figuring out what we’ll have in store for Brad. But he has to get us first. We’ll wait!” His second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” is about to break into the Top 20. “It’s great to see it doing well,” he says. “Still hearing it on the radio is something else, when you hear your voice coming across the other side of the stereo. It’s a pretty incredible feeling. I want to say a huge thanks to country radio for their support and for believing in me. I am looking forward to seeing them while on tour.”

Scotty McCreery's Dominican Republic Trip, Story and Pictures via Samaritan Purse

Scotty McCreery recently traveled to the Dominican Republic to hand out Shoe Boxes, filled with gifts to the children there. Today http://www.SamaritanPurse.org posted Scotty's story.  This is just heart warming! Enjoy.  Make sure you click the link at the end to see a lot more pictures of Scotty and his family in the DR.
American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and his family traveled to the Dominican Republic in December to give Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts to children.

During their time in the country, some 2,500 children received shoe boxes and heard the Good News of Jesus Christ. Boxes were handed out in orphanages, schools, rural communities, and a children’s hospital in the capital city of Santo Domingo.

The McCreery family also attended the kickoff celebration of The Greatest Journey discipleship program at a church in Santo Domingo. Some 650 kids were there to enjoy the music, puppets, and skits that brought the Bible stories to life.

Later, Scotty played baseball with some of the kids who had received shoe boxes.

This marks the third year that The Greatest Journey has been offered by churches in the Dominican Republic, and we anticipate over 47,000 children will enroll in the classes this year. As the distributions continue, please pray for the more than 200,000 children who will be receiving shoe box gifts in the country in 2012. Pray that these children and their families will experience the love of Jesus Christ and come to know Him as their Savior.

The Boot: Scotty McCreery's Debut Album Goes Platinum

by Kenneth Partridge

Some three months after its release, 'Clear As Day,' the debut album from 'American Idol' winner Scotty McCreery, has gone platinum. Scotty's label broke the news last night (Jan. 9), and earlier today, his mother, Judy, tweeted a picture of her superstar son clutching a 1940s vintage guitar given to him by producer Mark Bright.

A hit from the get-go, 'Clear as Day' sold 197,000 copies in its first week, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Just 18 years old, Scotty became the youngest man ever to top the chart with his debut release.

Chatting with The Boot earlier this year, Scotty talked about how he wanted 'Clear as Day' to bridge contemporary and classic country.

"That was the goal of this album," he said. "I wanted to make sure I had the oldies ... the Conways [Twitty] and the Merles [Haggard] and the guys I grew up listening to, but still have that modern edge."

Given that Scotty was a young artist, there was no shortage of people giving him advice, but he stayed true to himself, picking material based on his gut and even insisting on the inclusion of a Christian song, 'That Old King James.'

"The songs just had to be right," he told us. "There were some songs pitched my way that were trying to get on this album, but I wasn't really feeling them. I just told them, "I don't like it." I had to have a song I could believe in and not fake in the recording studio or on stage. I had to stick to my guns about it."

Platinum certification, of course, signifies 1 million copies sold, and this winter, as Scotty tours with Brad Paisley on the Virtual Reality Tour, it's a safe bet most folks in the audience will know the words to his songs.

Scotty McCreery is college-bound

SCOTTY McCREERY IS COLLEGE-BOUND

Jan 10 |06:30 AM

Just because Scotty McCreery is a household name after winning last year's American Idol, he has no intention of putting his education on hold. He's in his senior year of high school in Garner, North Carolina, and come next fall, Scotty will be one of the most famous freshman on campus.

He tells us that he's definitely college-bound. "Oh yeah! That's the thing we're trying to figure out right now, the balance between college and music career because college is a whole lot different than highschool. It's a whole nother dog, so we'll figure it out."

Scotty hits the road with headliner Brad Paisley on the Virtual Reality World tour on Thursday (January 12th) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He's currently climbing the charts with "The Trouble With Girls," the second single from his debut album, Clear As Day.

There is an audio of the interview they did with Scotty but for some reason my computer won't allow me to open it. So, you can click on the link below to go to their home page & listen to it.

Scotty McCreery’s ‘Clear as Day’ Goes Platinum

It was only a matter of when, not if, Scotty McCreery‘s debut album would be certified platinum for one million copies sold. Last night, his Nashville record label made it official.

“Congratulations to @ScottyMcCreery, his debut album, Clear As Day, is certified PLATINUM!” a tweet from the UMG Nashville Twitter page reads.

McCreery’s mother, Judy McCreery, also tweeted the above picture of the singer with producer Mark Bright. “Scotty with a 1940s Gibson guitar given to him by his producer Mark Bright to celebrate ClearAsDay going platinum,” she wrote.

‘Clear as Day’ was released in October and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard all-genre charts. McCreery is the youngest male singer to ever accomplish that. On the strength of two singles — ‘I Love You This Big’ and ‘The Trouble With Girls’ — sales haven’t slowed down since. He’s consistently at or near the top of the weekly country album sales charts.

On Thursday, the 18-year-old will take the stage as an opener for Brad Paisley for the first time, and his mom has been keeping her nearly 10K followers updated with pictures from her son’s rehearsals. The 2012 Virtual Reality Tour will last through early March.
