The Holiday Guide: The 12 albums of Christmas

The best and worst the season has to offer

BY STEPHANIE MCKAY, BILL ROBERTSON AND JEANETTE STEWART AND CAM FULLER, THE STARPHOENIX

Scotty McCreery
Rating 5 out of 5
The 2011 American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, gives his interpretation of some old Christmas chestnuts and a few you may not have heard before.
Let It Snow has a cheery rambunctiousness to it, while First Noel, O Holy Night, Mary Did You Know? and Christmas In Heaven are all delivered in appropriately reverent tones. Jingle Bells and Santa Claus is Back in Town are done R & B fashion, while Holly Jolly Christmas is a wild hootenanny.
McCreery has a distinctive country twang in his voice and he turns it up to full hickory smoke on some of these numbers. His big win was no fluke. (Robertson)

  1. HIS WIN DEFINITELY NOT A FLUKE1! He is awesome. Every song has his own flavor. Not necessarily twangy! Just a great voice and made for this season. I think his vocals really embrace Scotty and what he is all about. He is one marvelous young man. There is not a better role model for young and old alike.

  3. I am happy for Scotty's success and what Todd is accomplishing. But I felt sure he would be on Radio with this album. It is incredible.

  4. I was at Walmart 2 days ago and bought the last CWSM. Last night at Target, they only had 1 left. They had a special Xmas display with xmas cds by different artists inc Rod Stewart, Blake, etc. It was playing Rod. They still had about 12 of his and about 8 Blake ,but did not have Scotty. You could preview a cd, but Scotty was not among them (about 15 choices) . I went to the electronics area and found 1 CWSM there on a Xmas display featuring Rod, Blake, but only 1 Scotty, no Ceelo at all. I haven't been to Best Buy or Costco lately, but will be going this weekend. Of course I always put Scotty front and center. It is hard to have it go platinum if you can't find it. Xmas cds are an impulse buy. I bought Rod, Ceelo, Chicago xmas cd released in 98, another Bing, Manheim Steamroller. I have a large collection of Xmas cds and every year I add to it. I have to say I have almost worn out Scotty's this year. CT

  5. I read this article "The Holiday Guide: The 12 Albums of Christmas." Scotty's CWSM is rated 4 out of 5 stars (not 5 out of 5 stars)--and this 4 out of 5 is the highest rating these writers gave any of the Christmas albums--though Scotty fans KNOW the accurate rating is 5 out of 5 stars. Lady Antebellum and Cee Lo Green also received 4 out of 5 stars. I have not heard their albums.

..........SCOTTY MCCREERY. [Christmas with Scotty] ,,
Lady Atntebellum, and Blake Shelton are bigger names, but Scotty McCreery outdoes those country peers by bringing fresh approches to oft' covered songs as Holy Jolly Christmas,Jingle Bells, and Let it Snow'...I just love it ...Maybe Donna could find this and Post it.I typed it from the article..That goes to show you how the radio plays the big names ,it's not that there better ,bot because of the name..

  8. Scotty's Christmas CD is so great! I have to say that the more I play his CD, the more I love Jingle Bells. It has never been a Christmas song that I liked, but I have never heard it sung like that before. It is really so great! His voice on each song is so beautiful. He has a beautiful tone in his voice and when he is in that sweet spot there is no one who has a voice that compares. I really hope with his next album that radio will play him more.

    1. I totally agree with you!!! Also feel the same about JB. When I heard one of his songs was JB, I thought oh no, but I had faith in Scotty so it was the first songs I wanted to hear and was completely blown away by it. I LOVE Scotty's JB!!

  14. I'm on very early or really late in the wee hours because of the horrific thing that happened here in CT. Newtown is only 45 minutes from my house. I know people in that beautiful community. My son's principal called our house and they were under a lock down. At pick up they had an officer posted at the school which made me feel so much better. He is an elementary 5th grader. Needless to say I left work early to meet him at school. My husband usually meets him, but today I needed to see him. He always gets lots of hugs from me (mom's privilege) ,but today even more.

It was a huge distraction and comfort to read the nice comments about Scotty and to see this amazing 19 year old lift me up through his music and the person he is. My faith is tested again today!! It has been a very rough day. I know Newtown and if it can happen there it can happen anywhere and CT has strict laws and the school has similar security to my son's elementary school. Unfortunately being in the health care field, I see many patients that are suffering from various stages of mental illness that is not being addressed even a little like it was 20years ago. So a big ILYTB to Scotty, Donna, and fans that post wonderful supportive comments about Scotty.

  15. I think we are all feeling the pain of what happened and being close to you, you especially feel the pain. How sad for the families and for those teachers who did a wonderful job protecting others, but I know they must feel the anguish of the others who lost their lives. You can't think that because children are at school that your children are safe anymore. A sad commentary for this country. We moved from one area because the police were on our street too much and now in the area we are I just got a pamphlet in my door informing us of two attempted break ins on our street two days ago. And we are in a great neighborhood. So no one is safe anymore. Love your family and enjoy everyday. Too bad we don't have more people like Scotty McCreerry. He is a bright spot in our lives. Thank you Scotty and family.

  16. Seems like Scotty is getting new converts everyday! We 'McCreerians' have been trying to tell 'em how great our Scotty is! Now we need to get the radio stations to figure out that Scotty is a Country Music STAR! worth playing every day..he's probably too clean cut for them?? God Bless Them Everyone..My heart hurts for those innocent lives lost in Connecticut..praying that God will heal what's wrong with this country/this world.
