Scotty McCreery Goes Beyond the Surface in Mary Did You Know?

American  Idols Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips usher in the Yuletide season with the No. 4 bows of “Christmas with Scotty McCreery” and “The World from the Side of the Moon,” Phillips’ first studio album, on Billboard 200. Both discs are notable not only for their singers’ genre-boosting appeal, but also for their track listings’ unbridled optimism and radio-ready gloss.

The Season 10 champ is busy juggling college (he goes to North Carolina State University) and a red-hot career as a country singer. His 11-track holiday set is instantly appealing because his easygoing baritone captures the warmth and feisty lilt of “Let It Snow,” “Jingle Bells,” and the fiddle-and-piano-fueled “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

McCreery goes beyond the surface in “Mary Did You Know?” as he waxes philosophical about the Blessed Virgin Mary’s ultimate sacrifice: “Did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?/ Did you know that when you kissed your little baby, you kissed the face of God?”
Positive vibe characterizes the original tunes in his repertoire: The heart-warming “Christmas in Heaven” reveals how the death of a loved one has made him see things in a different light, while “Christmas Comin’ Round Again” encourages people to forget about their differences—and to “let go and let love.”

The album ends on a high note when McCreery puts a bluesy rock spin on the carol, “Santa Claus Is Back In Town”—in which the 19-year-old crooner channels a belting and growling Elvis Presley!

I only posted the part about Scotty you can click on the link below to read the complete article

  1. The whole article is good! I have to follow Phillip too because he is from my home town, and we are very proud of him around here like Garner, NC, is of Scotty. BUT, Scotty has me at a whole 'nuther level, to say the least, mainly because his voice is like nothing I have ever heard before and I can't stop listening to it.

  2. I agree about that voice. It is in a class of its own. I don't sleep alot so I love to put his music on with my headphones on and now add the fireplace and I'm taken to a wonderful place. We McCreerians saw it right from the start and now with new management he is getting more attention, the attention he so deserves. I love hearing people talk about him. This is like nothing I have ever done in my 66 years, following anyone everyday. And boy has it been fun reading all the new posts yesterday and today. Thanks Todd and thanks girls.

  3. Love talented Scotty and his beautiful smooth voice that surfaced on CWMC! Hope
that continues on his sophomore album!...Also love his stage performances, especially when he isn't tied to the stand-up stage it when he
takes off moving with the hand-held portion of the mic. ...Missed that in the
last couple of performances. Still a solid fan!

  4. This is really a good article on both Scotty . He is just sooo busy and people are beginning to notice him more because he is out there where he should be. I too like it when he moves around on stage he shows the audience that he is there for all of them. I did notice the other night with Kristy cooke that he stayed at the mic and she walked around with hers thats the first thing I did notice because with Pia it looked better because they both had the mics in their hands, I'm not saying it was bad but it did look good I mean he could be upside down and he probably would sound good because I don't think he has ever had a bad day with that voice except that one time when he was really sick. He is just sounding so mature and that Voice I Can actually listen to it 24-7.I just want to meet our boy one day. I still PRAY that will happen. ILYTB

    1. It seems that he is still not so comfortable performing duets with female artists - Pia is a personal friend of his, so they were more comfortable on stage - Or, it could also be the song choice - But I think in time he will feel more comfortable and flexible as he matures as an artist and in himself - Jimmy Iovine had said before that Scotty is at his best when he performs solo - so I think that Scotty is still learning stuff, performance-wise -- He's doing great as it is --

  5. Scoty's Voice is So Unique that he has that Smooth beautiful Voice that we all love so dearly. I read your Comment at 5:43PM and I cryed cause he does deserve it so much. He does have A red-hot Career just keep it coming Todd. I Love everything you have done so far to get our Sweet Scotty out there. I love it when he takes the mic and holds it in his hands while he sings and while he moves around too. Another one I love is when he is sitting on A Stool. when he is Sitting on one It's when he talk'S before he sings. and while he talks to the andience is one of my favorite's. Still a solid fan!!!!
