Scotty McCreery Lauds Choice Of Keith Urban As “American Idol” Judge
Singer Says It’s “About Time” There’s A Country Panelist
By Phyllis Stark
With
Keith Urban official named as a judge for season 12 of FOX’s “American
Idol,” season 10 winner Scotty McCreery says it’s “about time” the show
got a judge from the world of country music.
McCreery tells MSN
Music’s One Country he was “pumped” after hearing Urban had been chosen.
“Country music has done so well on the show over the years, starting
with Carrie [Underwood] and all them, so it’s good for country music,
good for Keith, and I’m over the moon about it,” he says. “It’ll be fun
to watch his perspective from a viewer’s standpoint.”
As for what
kind of a judge he thinks Urban will end up being, McCreery says, “I
can’t see him being mean. I could see him being real.”
He also
thinks having a country judge should help that genre of music be better
represented on the show. As for his own experience signing country on
“Idol,” McCreery says, “I felt like not all the time they really
understood. I remember I tried to sing Travis Tritt one week, and I did,
but I had to kind of fight for it because nobody really understood
where I wanted to go with it.”
Urban is already on the road
judging “Idol” contestants around the country, and viewers will get
their first glimpse of him at work when the show debuts in January 2013.
He joins fellow judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
McCreery
thinks Minaj will be interesting to watch. “Oh lord, she’s different,”
he tells One Country. “I don’t know her music that well or anything
about her, but from the pictures I’ve seen she is very flashy, so she’ll
be good for the TV.”

Love this picture - cute, cute, cute! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteI think that it was Scotty who really opened the door & inspired others in the country music genre to believe that they too can make it on these talent shows & not to be intimidated by the pop/ rock culture -- If you watch these shows, after Ai10, more country singers auditioned to get on these shows -- not just on AI, but also on The Voice --
I hope Scotty stays true to classic country & keeps that country soul/tone --
also on the xfactor. never thought i would see simon complement a country singer like he did that young man the other nite on xfactor. still in my opinion none measure up to scotty though.
DeleteDitto to both!!!
DeleteTOC & others might take some tips from msn.com when it comes to pictures! ;)
ReplyDeleteDouble ditto K !!!
DeleteI thought Randy Jackson was leaving AI also. ??
ReplyDeleteI agree, I will watch Idol because I would like to see Keith and I've always liked Randy Jackson. I saw some of The Voice last week for the first time and they had this really incredible country singer on it named Tate, I think Stevens or Stephens. He's older, not a teen or 20's, and sings beautifully. He blew me away!! I haven't seen much of the show, but I pick him to be the winner if he performs like he did during the auditions. I'm sure they have it posted. All of the judges (Demi, Brittany, LA, and another person filling in for Simon) mouths dropped when he opened his mouth to sing and he seemed to be such a nice guy. He auditioned in Kansas City. I bring it up because he, like Scotty, represents country music on an international show beautifully. It was like he was a star already, similar to Garth.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate Scotty so much for bringing me back to my country roots. I really respect and enjoy many country artists as people and as musicians. You can tell they are not in it for the fame, but to please their fans and touch the lives of others through their music. Scotty and his family have touched me deeply and I truly care about them. I had not listened to BP very much except for on the radio, but have now bought several cds and went to his show to see Scotty and him because I like him so much as a person and for all the support he's given Scotty and I like the message of many of his songs. They ring very true to me and I enjoy them. It is always nice to see an artist and understand the words so you can sing along with them, which you don't seem to find in many musical genres these days and be touched by the words or laugh and smile and feel good.
I enjoy sharing with you all and Donna and staff are amazing - Big Hugs to them. I hope you all have a wonderful day!!TL
Are you talking about The Voice or the X-Factor?
DeleteIf it´s the older guy on XF I liked him fine. I have seen many artists since I made Scotty my "idol" and I liked several. But I must admit, none were able to capture my heart and soul like Scotty has done and I know with myself that nobody ever will. I am and I will always be a Scotty addict
DeleteYes, I'm sorry Tate was his name on X Factor!! Please forgive me. He's no Scotty, but sang very well and seemed to be a nice guy. I hope he does well. It's good for country music which is always good for such a bright and shining star like Scotty.
DeleteAs Scotty matures he is becoming a 'knock out'! So handsome! I think, Keith Urban is a great choice as a judge. He just recently had throat surgery, so this will also give him time to let his voice recuperate. Mariah Carey, though I don't listen to her music, apparently has an amazing voice, so she should be a great judge. As for Minaj being an Idol judge...isn't she a rapper and isn't that genre becoming passe? I hope so!(just my opinion)! And the 'dawg' is back, Randy Jackson! I've always felt Randy has a good ear for music and he also is a staple, so glad I'm he'll be there with his "He's in it to Win It" favorite line! Then we all can groan!!lol
ReplyDeleteoops! shd read 'so I'm glad'!
DeleteThis is one of the most beautiful pictures taken of Scotty. he is so handsome and so attractive I could eat him
ReplyDeleteplease don't eat him! ;)
Deletelol
DeleteScotty has always been good looking, but I think being on Ai10 gave him that self confidence and from then on he just has "glowed" - His handsomeness or attractive appeal also comes from within him, his personality, his goodness and grace-full soul - He is such a classy and well-educated person too -
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that Scotty has "glowed" -I Just love it when he wears light blue cause it brings out those blue eyes.-I'M gonna have to go with Scotty that IT'S about time that they got A country music star to be A Judge,-it's going to be fun.-When it is especially Keith Urban cause he is super great.- I just love keith and I also love his music.
DeleteCheck out his photo shoot for CAD. Please watch closely. You will see a photo of him under the trees, close up.......my favorite. All of the photos are great like the one above, but that one in the shade just grabbed my heart. It is of him alone and he looks so sweet and innocent. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWhere is it ?

DeleteI agree w/ all!! Especially 10:35 AM!..Beautiful!! I think Tate was on Blake's show "The Voice". He was good and may win but not like our Scotty!!
ReplyDeleteNo Tate was I xfactor.
DeleteYes, Tate was on X Factor. I'm sorry for the confusion. I got my shows mixed up.
DeleteI watch all these singing shows also I get them mixed up to.
