Scotty McCreery - CMA Music Festival tonight at 8:00 pm

CMA Music Festival
ABC, 8 ET/PT

People who think variety is dead haven't been paying attention to how many musical specials there are, tied (directly or not) to awards shows. That's particularly true with country, which seems to find a way to celebrate itself every other week. This week, it's a recap of the June festival, slated to feature Faith Hill, Miranda Lambert, Scotty McCreery and Carrie Underwood, among others.

  1. Watched the CMA Music Fest tonight. Scotty didn't come on until 1045 ! Only one song. What does CMA have against him anyway!!! He did a beautiful job of T R O U B L E. Everyone else had at least two songs, some had three.

    1. Same here!!..And they didn't say anything about all of his accomplishments!..Worst of all to me, they didn't let us see and hear the crowds screaming for him like they did in the original one!!!...BUT Twitter said Scotty was trending world-wide as he was singing!! And Taste of Country had a nice article about him already!..He will be vindicated soon!!..Also I think they had him on to attract all the fans they knew he had!

    4. I said all along that CMA would use Scotty to pull ratings. Not a popular comment. Believe it was Gma dodie who said that was ridiculous. Another said she saw it as CMA's giving Scotty attention rather than using him. I thought, Yeah right, CMA producers set down and said, Hey, let's give the McCreery kid some attention since he's such a great guy and all. The producers don't care if he is great guy, has God on his side, is in GWR, wears nice shirt, is humble, or the cutest most adorable thing ever, they care which record label has the most clout. And Interscope did not get CMA nominations for their artists this yr relative to the talent they had. I don't know if that changes from yr to yr, but Int. was not favored this yr. It isn't personal against Scotty, it is about politics and money. I boycotted the show, and some fans took issue with that, but since they were attempting to pull ratings, I assume ratings is the one thing they will pay attention to, but not without major support. While I'm certainly not happy with CMA, I feel Scotty lost momentum with slight of nomination. And as much as some don't want to believe it, WTT didn't do him any favors positioning him for nomination. Given the favoritism extended some record labels, Scotty might not have gotten nomination regardless, but he would have been a lot more difficult to ignore with a top 10 hit. I don't understand why he could not have had hit. YMTLG (gd but not great song) but w/Scotty's voice and talent it could have hit top 10 with good video. I just wonder what and who took part in that decision. Scotty needs a mega hit song all his own which showcases the lady killer voice. I don't know if it's Scotty or mgt. but he has already outgrown CAD. And now we are looking at what? spring? before we hear anything but Christmas music. I'm just not one of those people that typically buy CMAS music and I'm concerned to see artist like HH step ahead into momentum that Scotty held. know people don't want to hear this, but I think WTT and shun of CMA has cost Scotty some momentum. Still hoping "Christmas CD will do big things, but "fine" isn't going to cut it. I'm glad to see HH doing well as he deserves it, but frustrated that at one point Scotty was positioned as the front runner. Now he's gonna have to fight his way back. He can do it, like he did on AI, but he's got to have right songs, promo and mgt. Before other fans pounce like vultures on comments, I will say Scotty has gigantic potential, but song choices for CAD while great for start, were outgrew quickly. It was no time til they seemed too small for voice/personality and too youthful for some middle generations. Still doing well on charts due to his diligent tours, great voice and talent, but not b/c of songs IMO. I think he has great voice, I'm just always disappointed with song pics, I so wish to hear a "Scotty's own" of songs like Your Man, The Dance, CITYWMH as these were more universally popular with wider range population. Instead we get songs like TTWG...good for tweens and video, but I just don't like the song. It too youthful for performances in the big leagues. To reach his incredible potential, there are needed chgs somewhere. I'm not concerned w/fans being impatient, b/c he had momentum he needed to have held onto. Timing is a factor here. As frustrated as many will be with me speaking my mind, I am likewise frustrated by the complacency and redundant pollyanna comments that are useless to this brilliant kids future. So suggestion now is to quit fooling w/little TOC polls and get the frigging CMAS album sold by DOING SOMETHING POSITIVE, via acceptance of reality...surely there r some out there willing to work instead of just talk.

    5. I agree with you somewhat! CAD has been a big seller and still sells well after concerts. I've just listened to the same songs so much I am ready for new music from him. I feel quite confident that he knows he has to create his own sound, that doesn't follow a country formula that's been around for quite some time, which I think some of the upbeat songs on CAD are reminiscent of like forgive me, but WTT, YMTLG, WITC and BTT. Also, I'm inclined to agree that Scotty has out-grown some of the songs on CAD. Like he said though, he only put songs on the album that he could identify with, which several songs are of a young person in high school! Everyone here comments often on how much Scotty has matured and I agree. I think new studio pictures of himself are in order as well, (though I do love the picture on his Christmas Album). Were still seeing pictures of him when he was sixteen being used all over. Soon we'll have the Christmas Album (can hardly wait) but after Christmas hopefully he'll release a single from his forthcoming new album! Scotty, in my opinion, has a much better voice than HH, he just needs the right song!

    6. Don't you worry Scotty always surprises us!He is a smart and talented kid. I went on the CMA Fan Festival site last night and watched the behind the scenes and they clearly like Scotty and saw the crowd waiting to see him during his set at LP Field and at fanfest. It's a lot of fun if you haven't seen it. Many artists who have been around for years haven't played LP Field and Scotty Did it with Josh last year and this year was doing his own set. I am very encouraged that he is liked by so many. I think it was smart to do the xmas album while we wait for his next cd. I do wish that they would have released YMTLG and I love BOTG. I think that song is great and appeals to the 20-40 crowd. I think CAD has wide appeal. I love Scotty and think he's doing well and I have a lot of admiration for all that he has accomplished in such a short time. Go. Scotty!!!

    7. Also Jake Owen said that he played LP several years ago and then the next year he played Riverfront which was tough. Their are many stories like that so I think it would be helpful for all to go on CMA Fanfest and see it. It's a very nice event. My hats off to the organizers. Also Scotty had a huge turn out for his fan club party and many esstablished artists had their first.Miranda said she had about 10 fans at her first party and now had to limit it to 600. Scotty had 700 I think - they kept adding to it.

    8. 9:53 I absolutely hate everything you say. Stop plugging Hunter on this site . You do realize CAD has not even been out a year yet and to the people who agree with this clown you also are a full blown idiot. Please just take your negative energy out of here . I have seen comment after comment yours and I'm sick of it . Your just lucky we are not face to face . Everytime you make a comment on this site I will be coming for you full force and I will be as nasty as I can . I dont know you but I'm sure I would not like you at all . Go to Hunters Site. Country Beiber. you are a pathetic excuse for a fan . Scotty hadn't lost momentum you have . I'm over your opinions mind set and low ball tactics . I bet you haven't even been to any of Scotty concerts . Trust me I will be your worst nightmare . To the fans who are sitting around complaining how he had lost momentum Shame on you . You people really believe if he released any other song it would played more ? Its politics people and about doing your dues and putting time in . Your like freaking vultures .

  2. Scotty held his own with all those big names. Proud to be a FOS.

  3. FOS aren't the only ones disappointed with the cma/nominations - I think this disappointment has been going on for a few years - I still think Scotty's doing great - his 2nd country album is going to be his showcase as an artist -

  5. Scotty was the best dressed performer at the CMA rock concert. I loved his shirt. He made the other performers stop and look. Way to go Scptty!!

    1. I agree with you all!..Just so upset w/CMA!

    2. Oh, so this WAS a rock concert??? Wasn't aware of that. It is sad to me that country is turning into "rock". I'll depend on Scotty to keep some semplance of country in his music. I could count on one hand the actual songs that sounded country. I was so disappointed in Carrie and all the mumble jumble and rock star dancing ( ? ). I guess whatever sells these days huh? Loved Brad Paisley's song about country music, Scotty can outsing the best of them....just waiting for his next albumn or even single...we need a real strong one!

    3. 9:04; How Scotty was dressed and impressed just seems as shallow as a kiddie pool in light of the bigger issues at play. NO radio play, failing to get CMA nomination. CMA using him as viewers draw; Scotty needing a big hit song before spring; Probable insufficient promo for Christmas album, makes me wonder where fan priorties lie?

    5. 12:33 AM In no sense whatsoever does your reply match the nice comment made by 9:04. What´s your problem?

  6. Hey ! CMA definitely saved the best for last.......Scotty, then Brad. Way to go, CMA ! We knew you would eventually recognize greatness.

    1. I don't think they gave credit for greatness, they just used good talent for their personal gain. Recognizing and honoring it are two entirely different agendas.

  7. Watched Scotty sing 'Trouble' a few more times on TOC. He can really rock out, and can't say enough about his stage presence its awesome! He came quite close to the edge of the stage, sure hope he takes note of that each time he's performing! Scotty's band is fantastic too, loved the enthusiastic look on his drummer's face...the whole band was into Scotty singing that song, also the girls in the audience were dancing up a storm. Great performance, Scotty!

  8. I tried to post that this was happening yesterday, but YOU pulled my comment. I feel better now that I know most of Scotties fans feel the same. I also stated I would boycott this show as others stated. It is very disappointing to see these great artist all going ROCK!!!!!!!

    1. 11:03 nice to see someone will stand for something....as the saying goes, actually it was country song as well....u've got to stand for something or ur fall for anything. I boycotted also. It's the only way I know to make statement to CMA.

  9. Scotty needs to stay country to save country. In that State Farm interview he said he just put classic rock on his ipod and even mentioned he had a cassette of Little Richard from long ago. He also said at sometime he was a huge Michael Jackson, and he's mentioned other pop and rock stars. But he told us before he is country , he listens to country and that's what he sings. I just hope he doen't cross over. He said he would never do that. That's what we love him for...country. Pressure could be put on him to crossover if he wants to succeed. That;s what management does...push for what is popular and current. Those other artsists disappoint me that they are pop/rock/country. Stick with traditional country, Scotty. You promised.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well I don't know exactly what traditional means in this day and age and how far back you go to call it traditional! I know singers like Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, George Strait all became huge stars with their own sound and they were country! Like Scotty says, he has lots of time on this album to be creative, whatever he sings with his beautiful NC accent, feel quite sure his songs won't sound like pop songs (he doesn't even listen to pop), they'll be country!

      Delete
    2. No, Scotty did not promise us traditional country. Go back to 2011 and watch all interview. You´ll find he always said he grew up with trad. country and he likes trad. country and wants to bring back some of the vibe. But when confronted in one of those interviews as being traditional, he explains that he would NOT call himself "traditional" but trad. with contempory feel to it

  10. 12:33 , 9:04 made a simple statement that he looked nice the way he was dressed. Why come back with your comments?.That is what starts things going. Someone expressed a nice thought for crying out loud. Those other things are issues, but HE MADE THE CMA SHOW, that's what is important.

    1. Well, I thought he looked smashing as always too! Glad you commented on it! And you know, as some others have said, they could have had Thompson Square and many other artists who have been around a while but they picked Scotty and he didn't let them down, his performances was awesome. He definitely knows how to look into the camera and give a Scotty only look. He really is outstanding in giving expressions on camera!

  11. To 9:53 this is Gma Dodie and I agree with much of what you said. But they could have chose some popular up and comers like Justin Lynch, Easton Corbin or Janna Kramer
to hold on to people and for regardless of why they used Scotty, he was used and many people got to see a different side of Scotty if they hadn't already seen it. I agree CAD has run it's course and think there should have been a new single released by now. Waiting possibly till spring wasn't a good move. Sure the Christmass album will do great, but people only play that music for such a short time and some people don't get into that music and there are those who don't celebrate Christmas for various reasons, so these people are anxious for new music and I tend to agree he may have lost some of his momentum because there hasn't been new music and missed the nomination. He needs a great song of his own. TTWG video was age appropriate and did great so I don't agree with you about that.He will have to put out some music that appeals for the middle 20-30's crowd without compromise, meaning no drinking songs. The bottom line is he was on t.v and hopefully gained new followers.I also agree that all the 'everything is rosy in Scottyville' isn;t realistic. And people will take offense with me too. I have faith Scotty will be the big star next year.

    1. Enjoyed your comment Gma Dodie, very honest! Scotty with the singing voice he has, don't know just when, maybe a Christmas song hit, maybe his first new single. Whenever, his voice is like none other, so good and its just a matter of time. Meanwhile I for one will keep plugging away voting for WTT. lol

  12. I do agree also that here he was a frontrunner for the nomination and someone dropped the ball, maybe management! Not a popular comment, I know.

  13. I love Scotty and listen to everything he does and I love everything he sings but I am ready for some new songs. He could have released a single, even a cover, before the CMA nominations. That would have been a big help to hom.Just saying.
