Scotty McCreery concert at the Labadie Pig Gig on Saturday night, her heart dropped.
BAY CITY, MI — When Kim Lemiesz, 41, heard the cost of tickets to take her daughter to the
Lemiesz
wanted to treat her 14-year-old Amber Miller who was recently diagnosed
with Type 1 diabetes — but Lemiesz herself has multiple sclerosis and
being unable to work has hampered her spending.
"She
was up and down because at first I thought they were $10 and that I
could get them, but then I realized I couldn't afford them," Lemiesz
said.
Tickets to Saturday's concert were $25 each.
The
mom was able to treat her daughter to a huge surprise though when she
was given two VIP tickets to Saturday's Pig Gig and McCreery concert
provided by The Bay City Times and MLive Media Group.
The
Times also gave out tickets to Friday night's Winger and Trapt concert
to Bay City couple Kim Kowaleski and Justin Salas. The two had taken the
day off to spend together at their first Pig Gig.
The tickets give access to a VIP tent and special seating at the concert, as well as admission to the Pig Gig festival.
"I was speechless," said Amber, who will enter 9th grade at Central High School this fall, about finding out she had tickets.
Lemiesz
is letting Amber take her friend Storm Butler, 14, another avid
McCreery fan. Mom will be at the festival volunteering at the Crime
Stoppers booth so she can keep an eye on the girls.
The two teens already have outfits picked out for the concert and know where they are sitting.
"Front row," Amber said "The second row is as far back as I'll go."
Seeing
Scotty McCreery, the American Idol winner in 2011, is definitely a
highlight for the girls — who have a hard time pinpointing their
favorite thing about him; His deep voice, his lyrics that speak to them,
oh and of course his good looks.
"Mostly everything, Amber said. "He is awesome in general."
Lemiesz
is thrilled her daughter will get to enjoy the concert. She was
penny-pinching to buy one ticket before receiving the VIP passes.
"She's
a big fan and got hit hard recently," Lemiesz said. "She went to the
doctor for a regular visit and they put her in the hospital and
diagnosed her with diabetes. It's all so new to her and she gets frustrated."
Medical issues, though, were
the last thing on Amber's mind as she planned for the concert — and
possibly holding up a hyperventilating Storm.
"I'm gonna freak out," Storm said. "I'm smiling too hard to breathe."
That brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for them that they get to see Scotty. janfan
