The Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit performing arts organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey. The Community Theatre was built in 1937 and was once the crown jewel of Walter Reade’s chain of movie theatres in New Jersey. Its success mirrored the love affair between America and movies during Hollywood’s Golden Age. By the 1980s, however, the Theatre had fallen into disrepair and sat idle and hulking for nearly a decade. Things changed in 1994 when an army of tireless volunteers, armed with a sense of civic pride and limitless elbow grease pulled together and saved the Theatre from its uncertain fate. On September 29, after months of toil, the Theatre reopened as a performing arts center with a gala performance featuring the Kirov Orchestra of Saint Petersburg and Morristown resident and renowned pianist, Alexander Slobodyanik. Many volunteers openly wept as the Theatre’s renaissance finally came to fruition. Now in its 17th season, the Mayo Performing Arts Center has become one of New Jersey’s preeminent arts and cultural organizations and now hosts more than 200 performances to more than 200,000 patrons every year. Most recently, the Theatre completed its four year, $7 million “Setting the Stage” capital campaign, which allowed for major renovations including an orchestra pit, a state of the art fly-rail system, new dressing rooms and central air conditioning, which allows for year round programming. Additionally, the capital campaign led to the completion of the Theatre’s suite of education studios, which allows the Theatre to offer performing arts education classes to both children and adults. The upstairs balcony was renovated in 2011, with new restrooms, Art Gallery space and concessions. In May 2011, the Theatre officially changed its name to Mayo Performing Arts Center, completing a three-year transition.
Wow!! America loves Scotty!! I could be a "Scotty-head" for sure (like the 'dead-heads' that follow the Grateful Dead (yuck) all over the place. I could attend every single concert and never get tired of hearing him sing and talk. I have listened to his album hundreds of times since I purchased it on the drop date and I never get tired of it. I have to repeat "Dirty Dishes" at least 3 or 4 times, my favorite. Hopelessly hooked fan for life!!!
ReplyDeleteSo agree with you, I have listened to his album since it came out that first day and have yet to get tired of listening to it ...I don't think it's possible and I can say that, that has never happened with any other singer before. On youtube,I have been replaying a performance of BOTG that Scotty did...I think it's from Indian Ranch...that he put so much emotion into that it almost takes my beath away, I can't stop watching it. Love this kid to pieces.
DeleteSo agree with you too!! don't he tell a great story about dirty dishes.WOW this place is so beautiful where Scotty is performing tonight.isn't it great that people invite him to come to sing for people at new places where Scotty hasn't been.I love this kid to pieces too.
DeleteI agree with all of us..Like Brad Paisley said We have "Scotty fever" and it sure is contagious! Love him to death! He's a Godsend and we are blessed.
DeleteI was fortunate enough to meet him at a very intimate setting for a benefit for a Boston Hospital. A very gracious, adorable young man. I got a hug and a picture taken with him. Still smiling!
My family and I are leaving in an hour to see Scotty for tonight's show at Mayo. We are very excited to see him at such a beautiful theater!!

DeleteHave fun and please let us hear how you liked it
DeleteI am originally from New Hampshire, and I was wishing I could be at Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton, NH, in August!! They love Scotty up there. On the American Idol Tour stop in Manchester NH the crowd went 'bezerk' for him there when he came out on the stage singing "Your Man." I have watched that You Tube tons of times.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how far you have to drive from CT to the MPAC in NJ, but I know you'll be glad you made the trip!! Give us a report, please and thanks!!
If nothing happenes between now and then we will see him in N.H. I can't wait.... I believed in him from the first tiem I heard him.. and I was right!!!
