Josh Turner on His New Album and Protégé Scotty McCreery

By Erin Hill

With four #1 singles and two Grammy Award nominations under his belt, country star Josh Turner is ready to go another round with his latest album,Punching Bag, due out June 12.

Turner, 34, talked to about the meaning behind his new album, being a role model to American Idolwinner Scotty McCreery, and more.

On being a role model to last year's American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery — who happened to bring a lot of attention to Josh's hit, "Your Man."

"I got a lot of attention for that. It was great for me because I didn’t have to really work for it! But I couldn’t have asked for a better protégé to be out there singing my music in front of millions of people. He was great. Scotty is just your classic American hometown boy who grew up loving music and family. He has a lot of great values and a great head on his shoulders. I’m really proud of him for doing things the right way and not trying to rush into anything. I know his plate is full right now because he’s finishing up high school, he’s doing the music thing, he’s about to enter college, so he’s got a lot going on. He’s still in that impressionable age where everything is new to him and he’s just learning a lot in a really short time. I think he’s a great role model for a lot of young people out there. I was very grateful that he was a fan of mine. I don’t watch American Idol and when it happened, my phone blew up with text messages and I had to check him out and I followed him throughout the season. It’s pretty wild to see an artist grow up and develop in front of the world. You really open yourself up to a lot of criticism and it takes a special person to be able to do that."

WEBSTER —  An “American Idol” winner, an “American Idol” finalist, a “Celebrity Apprentice” winner, a Redneck Woman, a San Francisco treat, a Geico pitchman and everybody’s favorite Kevin (“Thank you sir, may I have another?”) are just some of the piping hot acts being served up this summer at Indian Ranch.

Scotty McCreery Gets Threat From Brad Paisley’s Dad Doug

Scotty McCreery has been the recipient to a Brad Paisley prank, a few times, on the ‘Virtual Reality’ Tour.  We can fully expect more pranks in the future.
Dan Van from Albright & O’Malley has noticed a common instigator behind the scenes at the shows. Brad Paisley’s Dad, Doug Paisley.
Scotty McCreery told Albright & O’Malley that the conversations are on going between him and the other acts on a possible prank and the timing of when to do it.
“We have been in talks in the dressing rooms on whether we should go on the offensive or just wait, because right now were sitting ducks but we got him right before we left off the last leg of the tour,” Scotty says. “He’s kind of given me a few hints as to what time or whatever.”
Scotty then reveals to Albright & O’Malley that Brad’s dad got Scotty thinking about pranks by telling him that Brad was going to get him, during a recent Opry appearance, before the current tour.
“We were at the Opry [recently] and his dad came up to me with a grin and said “Scotty smile and just think about what Brad is about to do to ya” I was like oh no, he’s the master and he’s got all the cards, he’s the headliner so I’m sure he’ll think of something good.”
Brad Paisley Prank Team Revealed:
Brad Paisley = Mastermind
Brad Paisley’s Manager ‘Brent’ = Action/Creation Director
Brad Paisley’s Dad, ‘Doug’ = Covert ‘Psych’ Person
There are other players but these three are the top of the prank team.
Scotty is up for USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for ‘Trouble with Girls’ on June 6th at theCMT Awards.

This Week’s Best Tweets: Scotty McCreery

This Week’s Best Tweets: Country Stars Start Celebrating Memorial Day Early By: Billy Dukes
Jerrod Niemann / Blake Shelton / Scotty McCreery Rick Diamond / Frazer Harrison / Alberto E. Rodriguez, Getty Images As a holiday weekend approaches, it’s clear that a few country stars may have begun celebrating a little early. Joe Nichols has something to celebrate, while a few others — like Jerrod Niemann and Tyler Farr — may just be celebrating life. Of course Blake Shelton is included in this list of the week’s best tweets, but his submission is much more domestic than fans are used to — but still hilarious. Each week we assemble the best Twitter postings from country music’s biggest stars. Shelton and Miranda Lambert are regularly featured, but a few others — like Carrie Underwood and Scotty McCreery — only make the occasional debut. Judging by what some country stars say on Twitter, that may be a good thing.

@ScottyMcCreery Hey @BradPaisley, were over here by the river fishing.. could you quiet down your soundcheck? Youre scaring the fish away...

A year ago today...

A year ago today, the confetti fell inside of Nokia Theatre and Scotty McCreery was crowned American Idol's season 10 winner.

A lot has happened since that night. It has been a crazy and wild ride following his journey but it has definitely been a thrilling one!

We here at Fans of Scotty have created this video to help you remember and celebrate the journey so far. Because no review of Scotty's journey is complete without his American Idol story, we have started the video taking place in January when he first auditioned.

We hope you enjoy the memories and happy winning anniversary to every fan of Scotty out there!

Scotty McCreery to Phillip Phillips: ‘Go Out There Looking to Learn

Scotty McCreery won Season 10 of ‘American Idol’ and became a legit country superstar in the ensuing year, so of course he has plenty of advice to offer to and to instill in the winner of Season 11, Phillip Phillips. McCreery offered his heir apparent a few choice words of advice: “Go out there looking to learn.”

During a chat with Access Hollywood earlier this week before the finale, McCreery offered that sentiment to Phillips and his competition, Jessica Sanchez, who obviously placed second lat night’s (May 23) finale.

McCreery also said, “Don’t go out of the gates and just try to do as much as you can and conquer the world your first year out. You wanna go out there and learn.”

He even pointed out that he put his money where his mouth is and he isn’t just doling out mindless advice. He said, “I got the opportunity and the blessing to go on tour with Brad Paisley and the Band Perry right now and I’m out there every night just trying to learn from them. Those guys are at the top. They’ve worked hard to get where they’re at.”

“I think if you go out of this with a learning attitude, you’ll take a lot away from it,” he added. Following the show, McCreery shared with his Twitter followers that he was happy to see Phillips win it all. “Passed the torch on to a well deserving artist, @PPhillipsAI11.. take it all in and enjoy it man!” he said.

“Tonight your life has changed forever!” He’s right, and that’s great advice, especially from someone who is living the dream. You hear that Phillip Phillips? The baton has been passed. Congrats from Taste of Country, by the way!

Scotty McCreery Offers Advice To Idol Hopefuls: ‘Go Out There & Learn’

Scotty McCreery arrives at the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 1, 2012 Scotty McCreery knows what it’s like to be in “American Idol” finalists Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips’ shoes – he stood on the stage and accepted the “Idol” crown (beating out Lauren Alaina) just one year ago.
With months of experience now under his belt, the country crooner shared his advice for the Season 11 finalists with Access Hollywood.
“Go out of this thing looking to still learn,” Scotty told’s Laura Saltman at “American Idol” on Tuesday night, when asked what tips he’d share with the remaining two “Idol” hopefuls. “Don’t go out of the gates and just try to do as much as you can and conquer the world your first year out. You wanna go out there and learn.”
Through “Idol,” the 18-year-old star has been afforded the chance to learn from some of the biggest stars in country music – an experience he doesn’t take lightly.
“I got the opportunity and the blessing to go on tour with Brad Paisley and The Band Perry right now and I’m out there every night just trying to learn from them,” he said. “Those guys are at the top. They’ve worked hard to get where they’re at.”
Adding, “I think if you go out of this with a learning attitude, you’ll take a lot away from it.”
Find out who won “American Idol” – tonight at 8/7c on FOX.
