McCreery to showcase Garner as ‘Water Tower Town’

Last spring, Scotty McCreery branded himself as Garner’s golden boy on the 10th season of “American Idol.” He continues to keep his hometown in the limelight.

It is anticipated that McCreery will sing part of his new single, “Water Tower Town,” at the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1 on CBS at 8 p.m. As the backdrop, he will use a photo of Main Street with the water tower showing off Garner’s “A Great Place to Be” logo that was taken by local photographer Ken Hall.

Hall has known the McCreery family for several years and has taken nearly 200 images of the teen country crooner. McCreery’s record label, Interscope Records, even approached Hall to take photos when his debut album, “Clear as Day,” was released.

Dick Clark Productions contacted Hall nearly three weeks ago and set him on the task of getting an image of Garner’s water tower. The image he produced is actually 11 photos stitched together and he spent nearly three and a half hours taking photos to get the best shots.

“For me, it was a chance to help out a friend and a hometown boy,” Hall said. But the opportunity to give Garner positive attention was an added bonus. “It’s just been a banner year for Garner,” Hall said. “It’s just another jewel in the crown, I guess.” And Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams is equally as pleased about the recognition. “It is cool,” he said. “And it’s just a continuation of the very positive attention (McCreery) brings to the town.”

McCreery is nominated for New Artist of the Year category in the 47th ACM Awards along with Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes. Each of the nominees will perform for about one minute during the award ceremony on Sunday evening. McCreery will sing the full version of “Water Tower Town” on “American Idol” Thursday night, March 29. To vote for McCreery, go to Voting is open through Sunday.
