Teachers Count: Scotty McCreery

I was searching around on Tumblr and I saw this picture. I did some googling and found the info below. Enjoy :)

From the Teachers Count Facebook page:

The "Behind Every Famous Person Is a Fabulous Teacher Campaign" fulfills one of the main facets of the TeachersCount mission raising the status of the teaching profession.

TeachersCount recently had the pleasure of meeting 2011 American Idol Winner, Scotty McCreery and his fabulous teacher and baseball coach
Derek Goffena. McCreery credits Goffena for pushing him to beat the odds.

He told me, “You have to work hard. If it comes easily, it’s probably something you don’t want.”

Please stay tuned for more celebs and their favorite teachers in 2012...

From the photographer's website:
I don’t know many of the American Idol contestants. I rarely watch the show. But for some reason I had heard of Scotty McCreery. Not sure why – he’s a country singer (I don’t listen to that genre), he won last season’s American Idol (I didn’t watch it) and he lives in Garner, just outside of Raleigh (I’ve never been there). So, when I got the call to photograph him at his high school (Garner Magnet School) I was thrilled – I love new experiences. Photographed on location in the library of Garner High School for TeachersCount, we took portraits of Scotty alone and with his teacher/mentor Derek Goffena. I also had a little help from the high school yearbook staff and my assistant Elizabeth Larson and stylist Claudia Gunn. Here’s the poster:

  1. Mr. Goffena, thank you for being a big influence and mentor to our Scotty. You helped bring to this generation a fine, inspirational and outstanding role model and singer.

  2. Anon.4:53...I agree!...Also thanks to his music teacher Mrs. Clayton!

Thanks Hailey for finding and posting this!...You girls are amazing!

  3. PS...I wonder what the photog. did or will do with the ones of Scotty alone?

    1. There were many images taken and, unfortunately few were of him alone. We were short on time, so only a few solo shots were taken. That's sometimes the nature of the photo business. The few I have will be shown, but not until I get approval from the family and Scotty's agent. It's only fair that they approve all the images before publication. Thanks for the comment!!

  4. I love the photographer's notes and how Scotty is recognizing another person in his life that helped make him into the wonderful, talented person he is today. I would bet this is going to appear in Country Weekly magazine because I have seen pages just like this for Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert that were sponsored by Teachers Count. I'll be on the lookout in the upcoming issues.

  5. nothing about charts here but wanted to post TTWG is # 18 on mediabase chart today. MJ IN TX
