Scotty McCreery winning people over in Lubbock, TX

Brad Paisley's world tour makes stop in Lubbock, TX

The night began with Scotty McCreery, Fox Network’s 2011 “American Idol” winner singing a set including his hit “I Love You This Big.”
“I was surprised by Scotty,”
said Jack Johnson, a senior bio-chemistry major from Lubbock. “I didn’t like him on American Idol, brokenheart.gif but I do now. He won me over.” huggy.gif
McCreery’s fame from the reality show translated well to country radio. Devon Norwood, a student at Coronado High School, came to see Brad Paisley, but her friend Madisen Pollock said she was far more excited for McCreery. “I followed Scotty on ‘American Idol,’” said Johnson’s aunt, Cathy Lehtinen, a Lubbock resident. “and I’ve loved Brad, I had to come see them all.”

  1. Scotty is breaking out on this tour, he's energizing his fans and making scores of new ones. He's showing everyone just how GOOD he is. LOVE IT!

  2. Scotty is winning folks that claimed they didn't like him over one by one. Since I didn't watch AI last year (really wished I could have now), I really don't understand some of the tweets I've read about folks not liking him. I guess AI really is too much into fans wars and stuff.

But I've seen tweets from guys saying I really want to hate you, but you are too good. You have won me over.

Why did and do folks want to hate him to begin with? Glad he's changing their minds though.

  4. Hate is such a strong word, I don't think those people really even know what they are saying. It could be in part because Scotty represents everything that they [their lives] are not. Most of the AI fans are not into country music anyway and AI is a pop-culture talent show. But still, these so-called "haters" shouldn't even bother bashing Scotty since they don't even like country music in the first place. On AI Scotty had to sing covers, but now he can sing his own songs. So it's exciting to see him gain more popularity and recognition among the country fans and with the country music academy in Nashville.

  5. oh, and as for some guys not liking him or wanting to not like him -- they're just probably a bit jealous because all the girls/women are swooning over scotty! :)

  7. When I read this comment about not liking Scotty until hearing him live in concert, it makes me wonder just how many people attending Brad's shows who are experiencing the same thing, but are not necessarily texting about it. I can imagine thousands of Brad and TBP fans who never paid any attention to Scotty being "blown away" by his live performances. Does my heart good that so many concert goers are loving our young man. Hope I will be able to hear him live one day because I think we can not imagine just how great that voice is until we hear him live on stage. Absulutely LOVE all these GREAT REVIEWS!!!

  9. No videos from the concert in Lubbock, TX, yet. :)

Scotty is bringing back good old traditional country music (with that contemporary touch to appeal to the younger and new generation -- his music/songs are clean, refreshing, relatable and with meaning. And his voice is WOW!

  11. That's why it is very helpful to his career to continue as an undercard on a large tour. Sure, he can do smaller venues and sell them out (and he should do those where/when he can) but he needs to continue as an opening (or second) act to expose him to more country fans. If he doesn't continue with Brad during the summer, I hope he catches on with another country headliner.

Of course, I would love for him to move up to the 2nd spot, so he'll have a longer set, but opening sure isn't bad for now.

  13. Brad is the best in the business when it comes to "fathering" new talent. He has to be commended. Yes, so much of AI viewers are from the pop culture. That may be changing.....huh? And if AI has a down side, it is the fans of other contestants.........sometimes it is hard to "like" someone who beat their choice. Just takes time to weather the storm. Scotty is such a "good" person, he will eventually be "liked" as much as George Strait and Alan Jackson.....if not better??

  14. Yes, to 9:22 PM - and also, some of the younger music fans can be biased from the start just because so much of the music they listen to is pop or rock or r&b - and they can change their "biases" in time - i went back over AI10 and America got it right with Scotty. He really deserved to win. Everybody saw that he was country, but his voice, personality, stage presence, audience connect -- he just had IT!
