Scotty McCreery to play sold-out show in Lubbock, TX

Opening acts generally are expected to fire up a crowd. They have a tough job, concert grunt work that involves making sure thousands of music fans in the audience stop chatting and texting and start paying attention to the band on stage. It is, of course, a plus if the opening act also is popular — although, ahem, not as popular as the headliner. But consider all the reasons the upcoming Brad Paisley concert, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the United Spirit Arena, sold out so quickly:
Scotty McCreery — He was 17 when he won the 10th season of television’s “American Idol” in May 2011 and then, just weeks after turning 18 in early October, was named New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards.

Paisley’s current tour with McCreery and The Band Perry opened in a near-blizzard in the Midwest. McCreery, in a brief interview with The A-J, began by saying he’d been engaging in snowball fights that day with the other stars and crew. “I used to love doing this (snowball fights) where I grew up in North Carolina,” he said. McCreery said he feels honored and humbled to be invited to share the stage with such talented artists on his first professional tour.
Asked if he had learned one particular thing while participating on “American Idol,” he said having confidence in himself was vital. Reminded that some had questioned whether McCreery had experienced enough life to truly communicate romantic or love-gone-wrong songs at his age, the singer with the deep voice stated simply, “It doesn’t really matter what age you are. Love is love. It either feels good, or it hurts deeply, no matter how old you happen to be.” Meanwhile, a January concert review in the Denver Post said of McCreery: “Wholesome good looks melded with a deep leathery drawl equal one thing in country music: solid gold.”

  2. OMG, congrats to Scotty for being hailed as the New ARtist of the Year. It's been a while since I visited the site but I'm glad Scotty is really doing well with his career. His album sales are way ahead of other 2011 idols although the rest of the 2011 finalists are great, too. I think he's got a long way to go, and I really miss him on TV. Too bad, I'm not in AMerica to see him in concert. To all Scotty fans privileged to see him in person, I'm happy for you guys!
