Scotty McCreery to play Azalea Festival

Reality competition TV shows will make an imprint on the 2012 N.C. Azalea Festival.
Country crooner and 2011 "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery will play the headline concert at UNCW's Trask Coliseum April 12. McCreery, a high school baseball player from Garner, is currently touring nationally with Brad Paisley and The Band Perry.
The 65th Azalea Festival is scheduled for April 11-15 in Wilmington.
McCreery's deep voice and small-town sensibilities helped him win fans across the United States during his run on "American Idol." His success set off a firestorm when "American Idol" descended on his hometown, and the mayor of his small town even referred to him as the "economic development director" for all the attention he brought to Garner. Fans have built several websites devoted to McCreery, and he performed his first solo concert just before his 18th birthday in October at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek. McCreery's video for "I Love You This Big" rocketed to No. 1 and the single became a Top 15 hit. His debut album is titled "Clear as Day."

Tickets for McCreery's concert are $52.50 and $62.50.
