Scotty McCreery Reacts to ACM New Artist of the Year Nomination

Scotty McCreery Reacts to ACM New Artist of the Year Nomination

Scotty McCreery has been nominated for this year’s Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year Award, which will be given out during the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 1. This good news reached Scotty soon after he had been alerted by fans via Twitter that his second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” had just topped 500,000 in sales, making it eligible for a gold certification. “It’s been a good couple of days,” he says. “I am pumped! Looking at the final eight in the category, everybody in there was so good. I listen to all of their music. So to be a finalist is an honor.” “It’s been an incredible year,” says Scotty, whose debut album was certified platinum in only three months. “Being up for this award means a lot to me. I am ready to head to Vegas!” On Wednesday, Scotty learned that the past week’s sales of “The Trouble With Girls” pushed the song over the 500,000-sales mark, making it eligible to become his second consecutive single to reach the gold status. “I was so happy when I found out,” he says. “My fans were tweeting, ‘Congratulations on gold,’ and I hadn’t heard yet, so I checked it out. I found out, so I was pumped and made the calls and texts to my family. We are all ecstatic as a family.” Since winning Season Ten of “American Idol” in May, he has quickly emerged as one of the most successful country stars of the last year. His debut album, Clear As Day, was certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million units in just three months, and he was recently named No. 1 on Billboard magazine’s list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December. Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks. The album’s first single, “I Love You This Big,” has also been certified gold. He is currently touring the nation as part of Brad Paisley’s “Virtual Reality Tour 2012″ presented by Chevrolet. Voting for the New Artist of the Year will take place at VoteACM.com beginning March 19 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT and continue until 5 p.m. PT on Sunday, April 1 (before the live show starts.) The New Artist of the Year final nominees were selected by a combined vote of the fans and professional members of the Academy of Country Music. Professional member votes will be combined with fan votes to obtain the New Artist of the Year winner.

  3. I think the professional members of the ACM will recognize the accomplishments Scotty has made since his AI win and so many country artists have related that they are impressed with him and his music. As for me, I will be voting as much as possible for this award and know all his fans feel the same.

On another topic, I went to "Country Weekly" for news on Scotty and guess what...they had both Hunter and Brantley as finalist for the ACM award and not any mention of Scotty except in the write-ups for the other two finalists. What is going on there? I could not believe they had write-ups on the other two and not Scotty????? Hopefully, they are planning on interviewing him at a later date. Just really disappointed he was completely left out.

  4. Yes we must vote every day. Saw a note on MJSblog that the country music association is heavily pushihg and promoting Hunter Hayes so every vote for Scotty is needed and is important.

  6. I watched HH's backstory on CMT. He is totally different. He is very proud of his accomplishments. A very different attitude than our Scotty. I Love our Scotty so humble, never patting himself on the back, faith based and has a wonderful heart towards charities. I could go on and on. We'll just VOTE & PRAY.

  7. They are very different people and all three of them have accomplished a lot. It will depend on what the industry insiders think is important. I think the fact that billboard chose Scotty as the top new country solo artist is a good sign.

I understand Brantley Gilbert has a very active/dedicated fan base. There are 600,000 members in his "Gilbert Nation".

To me, Scotty's voice is superior, but that can be subjective and in the ear of the beholder.

And, for all three to be considered "country", their styles couldn't be more different.

    Gilbert is rock/rap country
    Hunter is pop country
Scotty is traditional, back to the roots country.

And, to me, by far, that is what I prefer. I loved when Scotty was asked with whom he would like to do a duet, he immediately said Loretta Lynn and Dolly Pardon; can't get much more tradition than that.

  8. Scotty IS traditional, but with a contemporary flair...He appeals to ALL ages!...And it doesn't hurt that he is SOOO good looking!...A lot of guys like him,too because he's a sports nut, and all that masc. stuff!...And he's so charming!...But CMA will go for HH. We just need to bowl them over with our votes!!...And trust God as Scotty does!!

We love you Scotty, and we'll vote for you to the moon and back!!!

  11. I will add that it is not only because of his golden country voice, but Scotty really has good instincts about the songs he sings and really puts a lot of thought into his song choices - - and Scotty chooses songs that have meaning not only to him but also to the listeners.

  12. What I am curious to know is, just how much of a say does the academy/CMA have in choosing the winner vs the actual fan votes total?

  13. The only reason that I started listening to country music again is because of Scotty McCreery! We really need to vote like crazy. Also, start lining up family and friends to help you vote. This is really important.
