Paisley, Scotty McCreery & TBP Combine for Knock-Out Concert

For many headliners, an act who has charted with one or two songs makes an able opener. After all, tradition finds opening acts hired primarily to just warm up a crowd so it is ready to respond with gusto to the headliner. Thursday’s show spotlighted a magnificent array of talent, including both opening acts. In fact, the venue was almost full by 7:30 p.m. — despite Lubbock concertgoers' rarely worrying about missing an opening act. True, there were a lot of teenagers in the house, and why not? Opener Scotty McCreery won’t celebrate his 19th birthday until October, and many watched him win the tenth season of “American Idol” in May 2011. But this is no kid singer. Don’t mistake him for one. Sounding like a deep tenor, McCreery was very much at home on stage. Sales of his debut album have gone through the roof, but he’ll need songs better than “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble with Girls” to maintain this dream-come-true success story.

Still, McCreery possessed the personality and vocal hooks necessary to provide an entertaining 25-minute opening set.

It is far too early in the year to award any prizes to this concert by Paisley and company. It is fair, however, to say that he has set the bar high for those who follow.

Congratulations Scotty! I am a huge fan and listen to your music everyday, from CAD to the American Idol stuff - I love it all!! Your music is amazing. By the way, your work ethic and positive attitude are also amazing. Stay true to yourself, keep smiling and shining your light!

Cannot wait for your next album (and dare I suggest a Christmas one as well :).

  4. It's funny how they said in this interview, that if he wanted to keep the fans interested he would have to do better then his 2 singles out now,Does he know that both of them how got gold,

  5. - Whoever wrote this review is actually right on that point. Because CAD and his 2 GOLD singles, Scotty has to come out with an even better 2nd album. He has to top CAD and that's going to be quite the project. Of course now he has more time to prepare and select songs and he needs to put out more upbeat songs and not just ballads. So I think a lot of people are just waiting to see what his next album will be. His label (and Scotty) mentioned 2013, but gosh, that's too far away! :)

  7. I believe Scotty will be around for some time. As a fan, I am hoping for a Christmas album which would put him right between CAD and 2013. I believe a lot of people would buy a Crhistmas album. Also, isn't "Love You This Big" almost platnium? The last stats I saw were over 900,000 sold. Scotty is an inspiration for all of us. How many celebs would go to the Dominican Republican to serve the children without flaunting their celebrity status? He remembers his fans and we will again remember him with our votes for New Artist which he deserves for all of his accomplishments.
