Taste of Country: Who Will Win the ACM Award for New Artist of the Year? – Reader’s Poll

By Billy Dukes

The list of nominees has dwindled to three. Three of country music’s fastest rising stars will compete for fan votes to grab the New Artist of the Year trophy at the 2012 ACM Awards. The official poll opens on March 19, but who wants to wait another three weeks to support Scotty McCreery, Hunter Hayes or Brantley Gilbert?

All three are deserving of the honor, which in recent years has gone to the Band Perry and Luke Bryan. McCreery won ‘American Idol,’ sold over a million copies of his debut album ‘Clear as Day’ and landed two Top 20 hits. Hayes released one of the catchiest songs of the year with ‘Storm Warning’ and built a grassroots team of supporters while touring with Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts. Gilbert is the only one of the three to score a No. 1 hit, and many believe he’ll reach superstardom the fastest.

So who do you think is the most deserving of this award? Vote and comment below before the 47th annual ACM Awards air on CBS April 1. Plus, click here to find out how you can win a trip for two to the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, courtesy of KFC and Dr Pepper!

Scotty McCreery ACM New Artist Of The Year Special

Sunday I had the opportunity to travel to Nashville for the taping of GAC’s ACM New Artist of the Year Special! As any country music fan would be, I was ecstatic about being a part of this. With only a days notice I gathered some family, packed a bag, & off we went to see Scotty McCreery, Brantley Gilbert, and Hunter Hayes.

Once everyone got inside the venue there was a funny announcer that told us the rules and joked with the crowd. Then it was recording time! It was a little odd but we filmed the ending first. The Band Perry came on stage, thanked everyone for coming out, and performed “You Lie” then “All Your Life”. Sets were changed then Scotty took the stage. He performed “The Trouble With Girls” & “You Make That Look Good”. I was really impressed with Scotty. In between the songs he was talking to the fans and someone ask when he was touring with Brantley he replied, “I don’t know. I’d love to. Brantley’s the man!” I immediately liked him after that comment. I came in not being much of a fan but after seeing him interact with the crowd and perform I could quickly understand why he melts the hearts of young ladies. After Scotty finished it was time for Brantley!

I only posted the parts about Scotty you can read the full article by clicking the link below

The start of Garner High baseball

Even though Scotty isn't back into baseball shape quite yet, he was in uniform and in the dugout for the opening game today. Scotty said he's about 60% ready and hopefully will be back on the mound soon.

Taste of Country: Scotty McCreery Strikes Gold With ‘The Trouble With Girls

By Alanna Conway

Scotty McCreery‘s hardly having any trouble scoring success, especially when it comes to his latest single, ‘The Trouble With Girls.’ The tune has now reached gold certification for sales exceeding 500,000 copies sold, according to the RIAA.

‘The Trouble With Girls’ is McCreery’s second single to reach gold certification, following his previous release and first single, ‘I Love You This Big,’ both of which can be found on his debut album, ‘Clear as Day.’

“Having the first single go gold was crazy, but having the second single go gold and to see the response it is getting in our shows is incredible,” McCreery beams. “I wish I could come up with better words than ‘wild’ and ‘incredible,’ because this is really special. It’s a huge honor. I’m glad the single is doing well, and I’m looking forward to keep singing it on the road.”

But his singles are not the only successful releases coming from his camp. ‘Clear as Day’ has already been certified platinum, impressively just three months after its release — reaching sales of more than one million. The album hit stores back in October and topped both the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and the Top Country Albums chart. The feat made the ‘American Idol‘ winner the youngest man in history to debut at No. 1 on the all-genre chart with his premiere album.

Sales of ‘Clear As Day’ also gave McCreery the achievement of having the highest number of sales of any country solo artist’s album released in the past 12 months, which led to him locking in the top slot on the charts for six straight weeks.

McCreery’s albums and singles will more than likely continue to sell like hot-cakes, seeing how the young star is currently criss-crossing the country with Brad Paisley on his high-profile Virtual Reality Tour. Click here to see where you can catch McCreery on that tour, as well as on his own headlining run throughout the year.

A S11 Appearance for Scotty?

The Hollywood Reporter released the names of 4 Idol alums that are scheduled to appear on Idol this season. While Scotty's name is not on this list this does NOT mean he won't appear as the list is no where near complete. That was confirmed by Nigel's tweet.

Nigel Lythgoe ‏ @dizzyfeet
As far as I'm aware Scotty IS appearing on #IDOL this season!!! Why wouldn't he?

Fingers crossed Scotty will be back 2 times. Once to sing the elimination song he's rumored to have recorded and his single. :)

Scotty McCreery's "The Trouble With Girls" Certified Gold Press Release

Scotty McCreery’s second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” has been certified gold for reaching sales of 500,000 units, becoming his third consecutive release to receive a gold or higher certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. "The Trouble With Girls” is his second consecutive gold single, following his debut single, “I Love You This Big.” His Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/ Interscope debut album, Clear As Day, was certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million units in just three months. Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks. "Having the first single go gold was crazy, but having the second single go gold and to see the response it is getting in our shows is incredible,” he says. “I wish I could come up with better words than ‘wild’ and ‘incredible,’ because this is really special. “It’s a huge honor. I’m glad the single is doing well and I’m looking forward to keep singing it on the road.” Scotty is delighted with the reception the Top 20 (and climbing) hit is receiving, along with his first hit and other songs from his debut album, during his live shows as he performs across the nation as part of Brad Paisley's "Virtual Reality Tour 2012" presented by Chevrolet. “As the weeks go by, we are seeing more and more fans singingit back to us. It’s a great feeling when you see that and see the fans appreciating your work,” he says. “We’re having a good time out there. “The tour is going great,” he says. “Brad and The Band Perry are great people. I couldn’t think of a better tour to be on. I’m learning a lot every single night. We’re having a great time!” Since Paisley is known for his habit of playing pranks on his tour mates, Scotty had been thinking of a way of having a little fun with Paisley in return. During Paisley’s shows, he has shown doctored photos featuring Scotty’s head on the body of a muscular man in a bathing suit, and he recently put a photo of Ernest T. Bass from The Andy Griffith Show on Scotty’s dressing room door. during Paisley’s performance of “Celebrity,” the screens flash fake tabloid headlines including “Is Scotty McCreery Brad Paisley’s Love Child?” So perhaps it’s fitting that Scotty’s joke involved dressing up like Paisley and surprising the star onstage. “Apparently Brad leaves his hat backstage at every show, but I didn’t find out until last week,” Scotty says. “I was going to take the hat out onstage that day and poke fun, but we decided it would be too early in the tour because it would leave too much time for him to prank me back. So we decided to wait a little while and perfect the prank – goatee, a tight Brad Paisley shirt and a guitar. “When we thought the time was right, we put it all together and went out there,” Scotty says. “He loved it! He was cracking up. So now I am sleeping with one eye open.” Scotty is nominated for this year’s Academy of Country Music New Artist of the Year Award, which will be given out during the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 1. He was recently named No. 1 on Billboard magazine's list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. He also won New Artist of the Year at the American Country Awards in December. Voting for the ACM New Artist of the Year will take place at www.VoteACM.com beginning March 19 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT and continue until 5 p.m. PT on Sunday, April 1 (before the live show starts.) The New Artist of the Year final nominees were selected by a combined vote of the fans and professional members of the Academy of Country Music. Professional member votes will be combined with fan votes to obtain the New Artist of the Year winner. An interview with Scotty will be featured in Great American Country’s ACM New Artist of the Year special that premieres Monday, March 19, at 9 p.m. ET and re-airs multiple times until voting closes on April 1. Additional air times and dates can be found at GACtv.com/ACM.

Scotty McCreery and Brad Paisley’s Prank War?

Since Brad Paisley is known for his habit of playing pranks on his tour mates, Scotty McCreery had been thinking of a way of having a little fun with Brad in return while on the road during his Virtual Reality Tour 2012.

During Brad’s shows, he has shown doctored photos featuring Scotty’s head on the body of a muscular man in a bathing suit, and he recently put a photo of Ernest T. Bass from The Andy Griffith Show on Scotty’s dressing room door.

During Brad’s performance of “Celebrity,” the screens flash fake tabloid headlines including “Is Scotty McCreery Brad Paisley’s Love Child?” So perhaps it’s fitting that Scotty’s joke involved dressing up like Brad and surprising the star onstage.

Apparently Brad leaves his hat backstage at every show, but I didn’t find out until last week,” Scotty says. “I was going to take the hat out onstage that day and poke fun, but we decided it would be too early in the tour because it would leave too much time for him to prank me back. Has prankster Brad Paisley met his match with Scotty McCreery?

Has prankster Brad Paisley met his match with Scotty McCreery?
The latest celebrity to get Brad Paisley, however, might be the last person you'd expect. None other than baby-faced American Idol, Scotty McCreery, jumped into the prank ring with Brad Paisley, getting his feet wet with a spoof on the headlining star himself. During their tour stop in Springfield, Missouri on February 25th, Scotty McCreery walked out on stage during Brad Paisley's song Celebrity, dressed as Brad Paisley! Sporting the signature white hat, an apparently drawn-on beard, a Brad Paisley t-shirt and a guitar, Scotty McCreery surprised the unsuspecting, but good-natured country superstar.

Enjoying his own prank, Scotty McCreery later tweeted:
Scotty Paisley went out to join @BradPaisley on "Celebrity" tonight!
and Well #shotsfired tonight.. too bad i only got a pistol n @BradPaisley prolly has a bazooka somewhere, hahah
Brad Paisley returned Twitter fire with this tweet and picture of Scotty "Brad" McCreery: So some young smart@$& who looked a little like me & a lot like @ScottyMcCreery showed up tonight..

Past victims of Brad Paisley would probably tell Scoty McCreery to run for the hills about now. Brad Paisley is not the kind who will let this little mockery fade away without retaliation. Will Brad Paisley get Scotty McCreery back at the next tour stop, or could St. Louis see a little bit of the hilarious action when the two arrive here together for Brad Paisley's Country Mega Ticket concert on May 18th? Knowing Brad Paisley, it just might be both! Only time will tell, but two things are certain, when Brad Paisley, Scotty McCreery and The Band Perry roll into town this spring, they will have already amassed quite a few stories to someday hand down to their grandchildren and, the St. Louis concert is going to be a blast.

Scotty McCreery Pranks Brad Paisley

Brad Paisley has just one weekend to seek retaliation on Scotty McCreery. The younger singer pranked Paisley during his song ‘Celebrity’ on Saturday night in Springfield, Mo. Their run of dates together ends next Saturday in Lexington, Ky.

“Well #shotsfired tonight.. too bad i only got a pistol n @BradPaisley prolly has a bazooka somewhere, hahah,” McCreery tweeted after walking on stage dressed as Paisley. He even got the trademark white cowboy hat right, although we’re not sure the boss has ever been seen wearing his own merchandise.

“So some young smart@$& who looked a little like me & a lot like @ScottyMcCreery showed up tonight…” Paisley responded on his Twitter page.

The two singers have been on the road with the Band Perry since January. According to his official website, McCreery only has a few dates left during his senior year at Garner High School and only a few booked for the summer, although his schedule will no doubt fill out in the coming months.

On April 1, McCreery will learn if he’s the ACM Awards New Artist of the Year. Fans can vote for McCreery, Hunter Hayes or Brantley Gilbert beginning March 19 at www.VoteACM.com.

Scotty McCreery continues to build momentum

Scotty McCreery is currently performing with The Band Perry and Brad Paisley on the 2012 'Virtual Reality' tour. Fans arrived early and packed into the sold-out show at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI in time to catch McCreery's opening set. Scotty demonstrated why he was chosen as the champion of American Idol's tenth season by providing a confident and impressive 25-minute performance that showcased his pure country vocal talent.

Riding high on his platinum-selling 2011 release, Clear as Day, McCreery has definitely taken the country world by storm. His musical capabilities and clean-cut image will only help to secure himself as a rising star in a saturated pool of country talent. Scotty was all smiles, opening with 'Water Tower Town' promptly at 7:30 pm. He grabbed a guitar for 'You Make That Look Good', another strong track from his debut album. He seemed to gain momentum with each song, likely a combination of additional fans arriving late coupled with Scotty's inate ability to captivate his audience. 'I Love You This Big' had the crowd singing along and 'Write My Number on Your Hand' got people on their feet as they clapped along.

His relatively short set suggested there would be little interaction with the crowd, but when he spoke he made it worthwhile. "It's great to be back here in this great state, this is where it all started for me here in Wisconsin," said McCreery. His successful audition for American Idol took place in Milwaukee. He did a good job working the local crowd, receiving good response when he referenced the Badger football team. "I come from North Carolina and I rooted for North Carolina State my whole life. At first I was a little upset with Madison, Wisconsin. Y'all happen to take our best quarterback Russell Wilson....y'all done good!"

McCreery's opening slot on the 'Virtual Reality' tour is a match made in heaven. It gives Brad Paisley an opening punch and crowd-pleasing performer in Scotty McCreery, while also affording Scotty the chance to hone his live performance capabilities in front of consistently sold-out arenas. McCreery played his current single, 'The Trouble With Girls' and then gave thanks to his fans before finishing with a cover, The Ranch's (Keith Urban's original band) 'Walkin' the Country With Me' to close out his set to an obviously impressed, and nearly full, arena.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

'American Idol' winner, Scotty McCreery, gets pitchy

GARNER The coach of the most famous high school baseball player in the country doesn't know how many spectators to expect at games this season. Or whether those who come will be more interested in baseball or celebrity. He knows this: Other teams might be better but none will have more star power. Scotty McCreery, the winner of last season's "American Idol" singing competition, is a member of the Garner High baseball team, as several million fans know from watching the television show. McCreery, who often wore a Garner T-shirt in honor his school, which is located just south of Raleigh, on "Idol," has told coach Derek Goffena he doesn't want to be a distraction for the team, which might contend for a playoff spot this season. He has wanted to play for the Garner team ever since he was a little leaguer, but the team's success takes priority. "That's really important to me," McCreery said Saturday from Springfield, Mo., where he was touring with Brad Paisley. "I'm in an adult world now, but I want to be able to play baseball with my friends. I still want to have a senior year in high school and play some baseball. It's something I've always wanted to do." McCreery hasn't pitched in a game since the summer of 2010. He threw some with his Dad on Saturday and said he was about 55 to 60 percent of where he wants to be.
"I've got work to do," he said. "But I think it will come back when I can get home and practice every day instead of one day a week or so." McCreery likely will be used as a reliever initially so there is no way for Goffena to predict when he will play. McCreery and Goffena don't envision McCreery playing soon, though. "I'll be there Tuesday, but I don't think I'll get to play," McCreery said of Garner's 4 p.m. home opener against Broughton. "I will be there pulling for the guys, supporting the team." Goffena doesn't have any idea of how many fans will turn out in the hopes of seeing McCreery warm up before games, but school officials don't expect any problems.
Just another guy
Toward the end of the "Idol" television season, thousands of fans filled Garner's Lake Benson Park for his homecoming concert and thousands more attended his birthday celebration.
But for the most part, he has attended Garner football and basketball games as a spectator without drawing much attention and he walks the halls of the school just as he did before he used it during the filming of his video "The Trouble With Girls." "It surprised me on the first day," McCreery said. "Almost everywhere I go someone wants to take a picture or talk to me, but at the high school I'm just another guy with a backpack who wears jeans and a T-shirt. At school, it is just like I never left." Garner athletics director Dwight Harrell said he has been amazed at how little fanfare McCreery provokes at school. "He's just a regular Joe walking to his classes," Harrell said. "People in Garner basically are allowing Scotty to be a regular high school student."
Garner High principal Drew Cook said McCreery has made it plain he doesn't want preferential treatment. "Everyone has really been respectful of the fact that Scotty just wants to blend in and be a normal high school student - to the extent that that's possible given the life that he is living," Cook said. "If he wasn't the humble, easy-going kid that he is, students might have had a different reaction. But the positive, down-to-earth image that you see portrayed in the media is exactly what we see here every day."
Pitching prospects
No one knows how good a pitcher McCreery will be in his only varsity season. He played for the junior varsity team as a sophomore and with the Garner summer team 18 months ago.
He was a member of the 2011 varsity team but never got to go to a game. When Goffena selected last year's team no one knew McCreery would spend the entire season on the show.
But McCreery has missed offseason workouts with his teammates and some spring practices.
"To be honest, Scotty hasn't had much of a chance to show what he's got," Goffena said. "He has work to do. I've talked to Scotty about it and he agrees. He doesn't need to go out there and pitch unless he is ready."
