USA Today: How the Idols fared at the CMA Awards
By Brian Mansfield
Only one Idol won an award at The 45th Annual CMA Awards, but stars of American Idol represented themselves well during Wednesday's show.
...
Scotty McCreery performed Keith Urban's Walk In the Country on a small stage in the Bridgestone Arena, surround by hundreds of fans reaching up to touch him.
On the red carpet before the show, Scotty said. "If someone told me (a year ago) I'd have been here, I would have told them they were crazy."
"I've been walking down the carpet, seeing the artists, seeing people I've grown up listening to. It's really cool for me. It wasn't a year ago, I was an average Joe. American Idol has changed my life. This is insane."
With the likely boost in sales for the Clear as Day album after Wednesday's performance Scotty's probably only a week or two away from seeing his debut album go gold. "We're hoping to shoot for there," he says. "It's been cool to see the response the fans have given me."

CMT News: OFFSTAGE: Scotty McCreery Calls Golf a Peaceful Sport

What wasn't so peaceful was the chaos of the CMA red carpet, where McCreery and I were having this conversation. He was looking around and even admitted he was in awe of the celebs. "I swear, it's just insane for me to be here. I'll be looking at all the people I grew up listening to all night tonight," he told me. "We watched it every year. We'd gather around the TV because country's always been a big part of my family."

Scotty McCreery won last week’s Taste of Country Showdown by the widest margin yet. With over 65 percent of the vote, his new song ‘The Trouble With Girls’ topped Justin Moore‘s ‘Bait a Hook.’ This week the ‘American Idol’ champion will take on one of the hottest songs in the country.Toby Keith‘s ‘Red Solo Cup’ was originally intended to be a cute video to promote his new ‘Clancy’s Tavern’ album. Keith even said he doubted that radio would play it, but several million YouTube views later the song sits inside the Top 30 on the Billboard country charts and was recently No. 1 on the iTunes digital sales charts. It’s rumored that the song may even be picked up by ‘Glee’ during this week’s episode on Fox.
