Scotty McCreery Overcomes Mic Malfunction to Sing National Anthem at World Series Game 1
by: Amy Sciarretto Yesterday

Scotty McCreery sang the National Anthem at Game 1 of the World Series tonight, which features the American League’s Texas Rangers at the National League’s St. Louis Cardinals. There was one malfunction, and it had nothing to do with McCreery or the lyrics!

The microphone wasn’t working at first, and it looked like Scotty was singing — but no sound was coming out of his mouth. It took a minute before things were rectified and that bellowing, deep and instantly recognizable voice filled Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Wearing a pair of jeans and a green windbreaker with the words “World Series” scrawled across the front, which was the same one that First Lady Michelle Obama was also wearing, McCreery’s version of the song was just about flawless. No flubbed lines. No skipped verses. No made up words. No changing of the melody. No big mistakes! It was simply the National Anthem, Scotty McCreery style. It was beautiful, loyal and effective.

Since he’s such a huge baseball fan, this was probably one of the biggest moments of the teen’s young life. He took this task quite seriously and barely cracked a smile until the very end. Great job, Scotty.

Scotty Breaks the Chain!

i said this in a comment but i thought i would post it ! As i am watching Scotty sing at the world series i am reminded that in the past singers like Christina Aguilera and Trace atkins have botched up the words to the national anthem.....Scotty did a wonderful job....His mother making him write the song out a 100 times must have worked!!!

Robin Roberts once again puts on her cowboy boots for an hour-long special, "In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville," which will give viewers an exclusive, all-access pass into the homes and private lives of country music's biggest stars. Roberts will go behind the scenes and on tour with such country superstars as Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Faith Hill.

She also goes back to school and take cameras to class with country's youngest sensation, "American Idol" Scotty McCreery, and spends a day in the life with Lauren Alaina. Additionally, Roberts will join Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush exclusively as they go back to Indiana for the first time to visit the site of the deadly stage collapse that shook the nation earlier this year. Scotty & the National Anthem

From news
Sure there's winning "American Idol" and having your album debut at No. 1 on the Billboard charts, hometown parades and an international tour.

But Scotty McCreery is singing the National Anthem at Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday (Oct. 19) and that's something else entirely.

"This is a huge thing," he tells Zap2it. "This is amazing."

Those lyrics are tricky; witness the many who have messed up over the years. To ensure a perfect performance, McCreery is practicing.

"I am practicing every day," McCreery says from St. Louis where the Cardinals will face the Texas Rangers. "My mom's making me write down the lyrics on a piece of paper. And that's how I study. That's the way to learn."

His mom is with him, his dad is driving up, and a friend may also join him. McCreery is a serious baseball fan and plans to stay through the game -- no singing and running for him.

"I wouldn't let them take me away," he says. "I am a big baseball fan. This is huge for me."

Despite growing up in North Carolina, McCreery is a Red Sox fan. Still, he's rooting for the Rangers in the series because Josh Hamilton, the homerun-hitting outfielder, is from nearby in Raleigh.

Standing on the diamond before a World Series is a dream realized for the lanky 18-year-old. He still pitches for his high school team the Garner Trojans. McCreery was in high school last week, taking a psychology test, and has to return to school.

Whichever team that made it to the series and invited him was going to hear his country bass.

"Anybody asked me to do something like this, I am on the next flight out," McCreery says.

WYCD Sets Up Surprise Meeting With Scotty McCreery For Fan With Cancer

  • CBS RADIO Country WYCD/DETROIT morning show host DON CARPENTER arranged a surprise meeting between MERCURY NASHVILLE artist SCOTTY McCREERY and fan ALEX BARNES. BARNES’ aunt wrote to WYCD explaining that her niece had recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and was a huge McCREERY fan. BARNES’ aunt requested an autographed CD but DON wanted to do even better than that.

  • "ALEX didn't know she was going to meet SCOTTY until she arrived at the station," CARPENTER said. "It was wonderful to see her smile, especially considering all the hardships she's faced lately. I am so glad we could make this special memory for her."

myYearbook | myMag - Article An Interview with American Idol Winner Scotty McCreery

October 11, 2011 — American Idol is known for churning out star after star, season after season. And while every audition episode has had its fair share of surprises, country boy Scotty McCreery’s is one for the record books. After auditioning for the judges, Steven Tyler shared one of his best quirky compliments, “hellfire save matches,#$%^ a duck and see what hatches!” Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson quickly shared Tyler’s admiration for the deep-voiced North Carolina native and all three sent him off to Hollywood. After winning the twelfth season of American Idol, Scotty McCreery went on to work with Mark Bright (fellow AI alum Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Rascall Flats) on his debut album, Clear as Day (out now). Below, Scotty McCreery discusses why he was born to sing, hot apple pie with ice cream, and why you should always go big or go home.
When did you first discover your voice?I’ve been singing my whole life. I don’t remember not singing. I think it was around 13 that my voice started changing. It just kind of dropped off; I kind of skipped that cracking phase.

Do you have any childhood memories of singing?I don’t remember it, but my mom says that when I was a baby at my one-year-old check-up she looked at the doctor and said, ‘Look! This baby will sing to you!’ Then she hummed a little nursery rhyme to me and I hummed it back to the doctor. It was a pretty cool thing. I’ve been singing my whole life. I sang in church and children’s choir too.

How has your faith influenced your passion for music?Greatly, I grew up singing [in the church]. My faith plays a big role in my music. You can tell that because the last song on the album is a faith-based song. Hopefully, one day we can produce and make one of those faith-based albums to show people exactly where I come from and who I am.

Scott McCreery - Hottest American Idol Since Carrie Underwood

Scott McCreery is set to be the most successful American Idol star since Carrie Underwood.
The 18 year-old's debut album, Clear As Day, shot straight to the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart and Top Country chart when it was released this week.

McCreery is the youngest male in history to open at number 1 on the Top 200 chart.
He is also the first American Idol winner in eight years to land his debut album in that spot and he's the first country male singer from the show to do so.

McCreery told RadarOnline: "My hopes were just to go out there and have fun and let people know that the album was out there. Everybody hopes for the number one, but you never really expect it."
