With all the fame and glory that Scotty McCreery received after being named "American Idol" in May, one thing has been missing — the Ford vehicle he got to pick out as a victory prize.
That will be rectified on Saturday, when Scotty goes to Crossroads Ford of Cary to get his Ford -F150 King Ranch.
In an interview last month at his Garner home, Scotty said his truck was on order. His mom, Judy McCreery, joked that Scotty would be covering the insurance on the new vehicle himself.
That shouldn't be a problem. Scotty's first CD, "Clear As Day," came out Oct. 4 and sold 196,739 copies in its first week, ranking No. 1 on the Billboard charts. He's also received gold record certification for his first single, "I Love You This Big."
On the "American Idol" finale show, Scotty and runner-up Lauren Alaina were both told they could pick any brand-new vehicle from Ford, a major "Idol" sponsor. Each also got to select a favorite teacher to get a Ford too -- Scotty chose his Garner High School chorus teacher, Meredith Clayton.
Scotty also learned this week that he's been nominated for an American County Award in the category of New Artist. His competition is The Band Perry, Jerrod Niemann, The Pistol Annies and Thompson Square. (Scotty covered that band's hit, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?" on "Idol.")
The awards will air Dec. 5 on Fox.
