'Scotty McCreery' miffed about "PAY" to play

This article made me laugh a little bit, being from NJ, I don't know anything other than paying to get on a beach. Additionaly, you pay more for holidays and weekends, and parking at the jersey shore will run you about 20 dollars for the day.. MORE if you spend the night at the boardwalk.  I've always felt the same way Scotty does about it. You really shouldn't have to pay to hang out by the Ocean. I agree with you Scotty #CRIMINAL.

‘American Idol’ winner and North Carolina boy Scotty McCreery was the victim of a rude awakening while visitng the New York City tri-state area today. The ‘I Love You This Big’ singer visited Long Beach in Long Island, N.Y. and was completely and utterly shocked at having to pay to use one of nature’s facilities! He demonstrated his country boy way of thinking with his tweets about the matter, especially when he showed his local pride and stated his preference for the Outer Banks beaches in his home state.

He tweeted: “chillin at Long Beach, Long Island and you have to pay to go on the beach? I ain’t never heard of such.. #criminal”

In addition to being miffed about shelling over cash for a beach tag, he lamented: “and the beach ain’t even nice. tractors going over the sand, planes flying over head makin noise, no waves. OuterBanks, NC > Long Beach … just think if they made Christopher Columbus pay to pull up at the beach.. what if he didn’t have his wallet on him like me?”

McCreery, who also rang the closing bell on the NASDAQ floor while in the area, has made his thoughts and feelings about pay-to-use beaches clear, and can’t say we blame him! Beaches, like hugs, should be free to all who want to enjoy them.

  1. I am a North Carolina resident and do not live near the beach or Outer Banks area. I rarely go to the coast, but like Scotty I have my opinions and when the shock of reality hits me in other areas, I have a tendency to speak my mind. If it had been a North Carolina beach and I am sure there are some areas on our coast that is not very special I would have just agreed and laughed about it. Scotty is a good young man and should not be chastised for the remarks he made. If he had expected to have to pay when he went to the beach, I am sure he would have carried his wallet and would not have made any comments on his twitter. Twitter is just something else for reporters to find something to exploit on it. This is only my opinion, but with him being in that area tonight it was not necessary for that twitter to have been mention.

  2. As a Scotty fan I must say @11:32 you're overreacting. I don't like to pay for beaches either, but it helps pay for those that keep them clean, and life guards.

  3. Scotty didn't do or say anything wrong when he tweeted this. IMO the media can't find any dirt to publish about Scotty, because there's none to be found, so they have to try & make him look bad when he tweets something like this.

But guess what? From reading other sites, it looks like a lot of ppl agree with Scotty and the ones that are giving Scotty a hard time, well, his loyal fans are taking care of them. LOL

  5. I, personally,like experiencing Scotty's new world through his innocent 17 yr.old eyes.
I think it makes Scotty truely appreciate how lucky he is to have been brought up in a great place like Garner, NC. Just mentioning the Outer Banks reminds me of "Message In Bottle" by Nicholas Sparks..maybe he should write a book loosely based on someone like Scotty. Nicholas Sparks does live in North Carolina, I do believe..Scotty is the American Kid whose life changed overnight. Let's just hope that he will never change.

  6. There is only one difference in what Scotty said and did, and what this SC boy would have done. I would have tweeted about how stupid it is to pay to go to a beach, but I would have also tweeted I told them thanks, but no thanks, and gone about my merry way doing something else. I ain't never heard of such either, and yes it is criminal LOL.

The beaches in the south pay their lifeguards well, and they maintain their beaches as well. But nobody pays to enjoy the beautiful beaches in SC, NC, GA or FL.

    Get em Scotty!

  7. When I went TO LA in Jan.this year,I went to 2 beaches that were beautiful and I didn't have to pay,but like Scotty I would have hated to have to pay 20.00 to walk on a beach that is public.I know Scotty is the most respectful sweet young man and I'm sure he was shock by it all and wasn't rude to any one

  8. I'm a midwesterner and have been to several beaches on the west coast including Venice Beach. But, we have also been to some paying beaches that had outrageously expensive cabanas. I personally didn't think those beaches were as pretty as the gulf beaches we have visited for free. Have never seen the Outer Banks. But, I'm with Scotty. It's kind of sad that we have to pay to enjoy the beauty God provided. It's kind of like paying for air at the pumps at the gas station. God provided it and we have to pay the station owner for it. But, our dear sweet Scottie that I adore is going to be enlightened to many such things as he travels this world over......and he has a right to believe "back home is best". My prayer for him is that it always will be. Love his wide-eyed innocence "This Big" :-)

  9. Maybe he was just missing home that day. The critics just like finding something to stir up. Shame on them.

  10. I don't really care about the critics, I love Scotty the way he is, he speaks his mind. People may say that it's an awakening experience for Scotty, but is it not an awakening experience for New Yorker's, too! I mean the city is rich so why can't they find some sponsors to finance the maintenance of the beach. Look at the beaches in the south, they are maintained without obligating people to pay for the maintenance fee. Anyway, that's just me. I love Scotty, I believe he's still keeping his prudence when he tweeted such lines. I still love him this BIG!

  11. Hey, Even though we know Scotty to be a nice, simple humble guy, that doesnt mean he cannot criticse or make his opinion known. He still has a right to speak out when things are not right....he's not a piece of 'deadwood'. Some people are just waiting to pounce on him and waiting for him to say or do something 'wrong'. He's not GOD, he's just a good nice 17 yr old kid. And we love him for who he is, that will never change. Ardent fan !

  12. He took a couple of rough hits from critics (see MJS Blog). One of them checked out his Twitter page (probably because of Scotty's remarks about the beach)and saw that he was watching Vince Gill rather than watching all the others before his performance. The critic then proceeded to say Scotty was obviously "bored" which showed when he did perform. I guess that reviewer thinks Scotty is also the producer and/or director of the show as well as a performer and should watch all the performances.

Apparently this critic is some sort of music maeven for the NY Times and you'd think (he or she not sure) would know that few if any performers on a tour who are only in the last performance spot would watch all the other acts who precede them.

As far as the other remarks go, everyone, even critics who go to print for large newspapers or magazines, are entitled to their opinions...I would just hope that in most cases they are basing their reviews on what they saw and felt about the performance and were not influenced by other news items or Twitter comments.

A virtual "mountain out of a molehill". As one poster said "Aw Scotty is all growed up...he has his own "gate" - that's a "beach-gate".

Goes to show just what a good kid he is...this is the only thing they've been able to get on his case for in over a year!!
